Question Tell me would you date outside your race?

Generation Y's (as the gen. x's call us) seem to be less concerned about race these days than our parents and grandparents. I like this "intellectual/mental progression". But tell me...what about when dating/marrying someone...are you less likely to date outside your race?

If you are a person of color, would you date/marry a white person? Would your parents get upset?

If you are white, would you date/marry a person of color? Would your parents get upset?

Race has absolutely no bearing on whether or not I will date someone.

I prefer dating outside my race.

Arab women can be such bitches.

I want a half black chick, or 1/4 black, I decided. Some Halle Berry looking girl. Yeah, that'd be legit.

Doesn't really matter to me, either. And I don't know what my parents would think, they don't seem very racist. (My mom's parents were racist iirc, but they died before I was born)

If my parents had an issue with the race of my partner, I get to call them hypocrites.

Yes, of course. What the hell difference does it make? Love knows no races.

Race doesn't matter for me, either, but in general I may prefer one race over another from a completely superficial stand point.

For example, I don't find black or south asian women very attractive, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't seen the exceptions.

Jeff, I'm Black, have dated mostly Black (tho I dated a White guy for a minute), my first marriage of 2 years was to a Black guy (and we had a son) and my second/present marriage is to a Spanish guy.

My parents were cool about my Spanish husband (all they cared about was that he would be good to me and to my son).. my husband's parents (particularly his mother) were less than "thrilled". She threatened to disown him, referred to me as "that black woman" (among other things), she stopped eating, etc. When we chose to get married, I decided that I would never let on to his parents that I knew what she'd called me or that I knew of the resentment she'd felt towards me. We met/spoke for the first time maybe six months after our marriage. I always treated her with the respect due to the mother of the man I loved. Within less time than you'd think, his mother grew to love and appreciate me and my son. She even put our pictures up on the wall of her home along with all the other "family" photos. She once stated that I was the best thing that ever happened to her son (she's passed on now).

Because my husband refused to let me go (basically choosing me over his parents), we've been together 10+ years and going strong. He is the best man I've ever known and my best friend.

Life has shown me that it's about how someone treats you.. not about their skin pigment that makes a suitable match (tho sadly race mixing still bothers alot of people).

I would date someone outside my race. It probably won't happen though, because I rarely find someone of another race who I think is attractive. Nonetheless, if I do, I would.

Alot Most of you said that your parents would either disown you or have heart attacks, but that you personally don't mind dating outside of your race. That's exceptional, though I expected that your parents would think that way considering the times they grew up in.

Thanks for sharing Clairity. I agree that it's about how someone treats you as opposed to the color of their skin. Or as MLK said...

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
On another note, your mother in law (god rest her soul) initially had a problem with her son dating outside his race or was it that she just had a problem with him dating a black woman?

His mom had issues with him dating a Black woman. His brother was married twice (both times to White women) and she never had a problem with those unions.

Funny.. I ended up being her favorite daugher-in-law.

I thought you were called generation I?

I think naturally people are attracted to those who look like them. Freud believed so too (Oedipus complex)

That said, yeah, I would definitely date or marry outside of my race. I don't consider it when talking to a girl or scoping one out. Some people are just hot, nothing to do with race.

      I love you Emmanuelle Chriqui

Clairity's black? I always thought that you were middle eastern?

Race makes no real impact on my choices for dating(unless they're Asian/Pacific Islander/Hawaiian)... it's the person I date, not their skin color.

Having said that, so far I've only dated white chicks, but thats not to say I haven't tried with other races or won't in the future.

My parents are pretty *I can't think of the word, they're not racist, but they really lump people into their respective race's stereotypes before they get to know the person* so they might not approve.

Oh, and my dad calls any black person that pisses him off a moulignan(Italian for eggplant), so I guess he is kinda racist.

      Everyone's ugly without skin.
