Are you sure you don't have kanker sores? Kanker sores are not contageous and are not caused by a virus according to what braniac scientists know about them. They are very similar, except kanker sores can be identified because they relay a constant, ear splitting siren.

Yeah I got a cold sore way before I had any kind of "that" contact with anyone, and I haven't transmitted it to anyone yet, and it hasn't mutated into the genital herpes strain either.

Don't worry about it. It will most likely remain harmless your entire life.

I *think* you only have to worry about when you have an actual outbreak (i.e. performing oral sex on a girl WHILE you have a cold sore).

Nope cold sore. Doctor said so a while ago.

I guess. I searched around and everyone is saying different things.

That's cuz "everyone" is stupid.

Obviously DV should be your one source of information man.

I call them "fever blisters", and I get one about once every two years. They can be contagious through direct oral or genital contact when you have them. If you kiss somebody when you have one, that person may start getting them. If you give oral sex when you have one, you can give that person genital herpes. Other than that, they are really no big deal. Lysine tablets will stop them from getting worse, there is ointment you can use to make them go away in a few days, and Valtrex absolutely annihilates them within about a day.

^ I haven't heard of those, are they prescription? I use abreva (ointment). Works very well but not as fast as within a day.

I heard you can spread it when you don't have an outbreak. This is where I am confused. People say you can and you can't.

there little white sores in or around your mouth. Well the ones inside are usually referred to as cancer sores. I got my first one when I was like 10. All though they are transmitted by kissing, they are usually not caused by this.
They are painful and suck if you drink orange juice with them, but will go away in a week.

Canker. Canker sores

They suck. I used to get them fairly frequently and they'd be bad enough to keep me from doing other activities (ie. swimming, playing an instrument, etc.) but I rarely get them now, thank God. They usually appear when I'm under a lot of stress, and/or if I've been eating a lot of oily foods (though that could just be coincidence and I've heard conflicting evidence on that).

yea I got them often as a teen. I would rub them and they would become more irritated. It made me so mad.

I've had a few canker sore outbreaks, but usually they've been caused by irritants (dentures not fitting properly, very spicy foods, eating something with a hard bit that stabs my gums, cheek or lips etc).
I'm a weird one that thinks the pain from cankers is pleasurable. I'll dip my finger in salt and press it against the canker for hours.

Wait, wait, wait. Back up. So canker sores are just cold sores inside the mouth?? I get those aaallll the time. I've had them outside too. Does that mean that I have the cold sore virus?? Another thing, Zhaylin you think that's pleasurable?! No offense, but, what is wrong with you?? I would kill to think that's pleasurable.... Do you think that if I eat you I'll start thinking it's pleasurable??

That would surprise me. I was getting canker sores as early as age 4, but I didn't get my first cold sore until I was 17. I don't know.

Let me drag my brain out of the gutter....

I think cold sores and canker sores are two completely separate beasts. I've had a few cankers that drove me absolutely bananas and I ended up burning them off to be rid of them (can't recall what the thing is called, but it's a tube of some chemical you can buy over the counter. I don't know if they're *supposed* to be used for cankers... maybe for guys when they nick themselves shaving? But hubby get's horrible cankers and that's what he uses them for)

As for pain being pleasurable, I'm sadistic (?) that way. When I was 7 I used to stab away (with my thumb nail) the gum between my lower front teeth just to feel the pleasurable pain from the natural salt from my fingers sting it. I became an "official" self-injurer by the time I was 12 or 13, so my pleasure sensors are undoubtedly warped.

But is there NO pain you also find the slightest bit enjoyable?- like exercising so hard that the next day your muscles throb and ache in a good way?

No no no. Don't get me wrong, I also love pain, pretty much all pain except that from canker sores, it's unbearable.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and just about everyone has it.
Most of us pick it up as children through being kissed by a family member who has a cold sore at the time.
It is highly contagious and when you have an active legion you shouldn't kiss anyone.
Thankfully most of the time the virus lays dormant untill triggered, the trigger can be different things.
Apart from being uncomfortable and sometimes a little nasty to look at, it certainly is nothing to be worried about.
An anti viral cream can help to clear up an attack quicker.

Just getting over another cold sore now, yay me, well at least I went over a year without having one. Forgot my abreva in good ol' US of A, so had to get some other cream here... worked pretty well, though. Funny, my cold sore gave me like a two weeks' notice before appearing, shoulda gotten something for it sooner.

Oh, that commercial hellohihello posted says in the fine print it's only available by prescription. I guess I shouldn't have assumed you saw that. If you just go to the clinic and say, "Look at this," you should get a prescription without any trouble. I'll tell you now that the stuff is pretty expensive.

I could have sworn I posted a follow up to that. I must have dreamed it. I found a bunch of credible pages that say canker sores are not caused by any type of Herpes.

The day I posted the stuff about canker sores, I got my first one in about ten years. That is so bizarre.

Is it inside your mouth? If so, take a swig of grapefruit juice and swish in your mouth like it's mouthwash. you can either then spit it our or swallow it. My bro and dad get them now and then and it works really fast for them
