IIRC DXM was used in Aquanina's frenquency thread, so a positive is it can make people notice you more.

Olney's lesions may have been linked to it (holes in your brain), from high doses or long-term usage. Other than that, no long-term dangers I'm aware of as long as the correct brand is used and in the right quantity (and of course you don't drive or something).

Make sure if you're going to recreationally take DXM that the product you're taking it from does not contain any other medicine... this is the real safety issue. certain over the counter pain killers, anti-histamines, or expectorants, can cause a whole array of unwanted side effects. One notable example of this is coricidin cough and cold making people's sinuses so dry that they would bleed from their tear ducts. DXM by itself may cause your stomach to hurt, thus leading to vomit, although after you barf the pain sometimes goes away. Ahh, a subject I am maybe possibly kind of sort of very well versed in. First of all: DefyGravity, DXM will not kill your liver unless you take it in recreational amounts on a very regular basis. Like, you'd have to take two bottles of Robitussin every week for a year to see an effect on your liver. And even then, it probably wouldn't do anything. Horsey101, William White withdrew his statements about Olney's Lesions. There is no proof responsible DXM usage will cause holes in your brains. Cacaphony is 110% right. If you plan to use DXM recreationally, make sure that the ONLY active ingredient in the medication you take is DXM, with the POSSIBLE exception of Chlorphen Maleate... And even then, I wouldn't push more than 64 mgs at a time (About one box of CCCs) and I wouldn't use it more than once a month, if even that. Whatever you do, don't get medicine with Guafenisin in it (It'll make you puke your guts up even more than normal) or Acetaminophen (Now THAT shit will kill your liver in recreational doses... Just ask codeine addicts.) Some medicines have phenlyphrine in them, which in large doses will probably make your heart explode. Now, some side-effects, that people usually don't like. Nausea. This goes without saying. To minimize it, try using Zicam instead of syrup or gels. Experiment, though. Find what causes the least nausea for you. Some people say gels cause less nausea than syrup, but I can't even put them down my throat without gagging. The Robo-Itch. You will itch. And you will itch badly. Now, I personally LIKE the Roboitch. It feels very orgasmic to itch. Some people can't stand it, though. If you can't, just take two Benadryl 30 minutes before dosing, and you'll be fine. Bad trips. Like any drug, you can experience a bad trip. You just need to make sure you're in the right set and setting. Don't take DXM anywhere where you're not comfortable with the place or the people. Now, the effects. The effects vary depending on dosage. On low doses, it's apparently like being drunk and high at the same time. At medium doses, you'll have plenty of CEVs, and a few minor OEVs, with a very drunk/high feeling, and a lot of introspection. Higher doses is where the drug really starts up. Let me say this: Do not do the higher doses if you're looking for fun. The higher doses are for spiritual exploration. There is nothing traditionally "fun" about them. Also, I'd recommend you be experienced in lower doses before you go higher. If you don't experience full body dissociation, you will experience plenty of OEVs, and MAJOR CEVs, including possible audio hallucinations. It would actually be best to just read White's FAQ. You will itch. And you will itch badly. Not necessarily. I've taken DXM dozens of times and I've never had the infamous robo-itch. Never had nausea, either.

Olney's Lesions: The theory that DXM may cause this type of brain lesioning is based on extrapolation from other NMDA antagonist actions and is not considered definitive. If you're going to useit just make sure you get a brand that contains NO OTHER ACTIVE INGREDIANTS. Overdosing on some other active ingrediants often found in cough syrup can seriously harm you, and in the case of acetominophen or chlorpheniramine maleate can kill you if the dose is high enough. Once you've assured DXM is the only active ingrediant in whatever you're taking, the only other thing to watch out for is not to take it if you've taken an MAOI or SSRI in the past 2 weeks.
