How to overcome a lucidity block

Hello guys, I have a problem...and im not exactly sure what It is....

I have had Lucid dreams randomly as a child, when I discovered what they were and that you could train your mind to achieve them more regularly I set about doing that. For a couple of years now I have been trying but with almost no progress to show for it. I still have the occassional lucid dream once in a blue moon but never as a result of the work I have put in.

The reason I belive I have a 'block' is because when I do have a lucid dream I can quite literally break every boundry that seems to hamper some people, (flying, teleportation, setting the sun at will....altering time...ect) and I find it all effortless. I love the experiance of lucid dreaming more than anything and I dont know why I have developed a block in attaining them.

If I have been out drinking (rare) I find that I can step into a lucid dream with no problem at all. To the extent whereby the last time I went to bed drunk I had 7 lucid dreams, all in very high detail, I was able to 'step into' the dream at the very first HP image. I figure this might be because my mind is more relaxed when drunk, but Im very comfortable with the idea of lucid dreams anyway and im not sure why being drunk helps me to attain the lucid state so easily.....its what makes me belive I have a block of sorts.

I have tryed every method of lucid dreaming I have read about (alot)....I have even tryed making my own binural beat tapes and using game engines to create a lucid dream world. I have tryed suppliments, alarm clocks and everything else you can think of, even tryed taking a long break from lucid dreaming, nothing seems to work for me. I write down my dreams each morning and usually remember 4 to 7 dreams a night. If anyone has any ideasas to what could be causing this 'block' I would love to know!

Ive only recently began to think of it as a "block" so I dont think that giving it a name has 'self caused' this problem....I hope someone can help with this.....I really dont want to have to become an alcoholic just to lucid dream!

First of all, you need to get rid of the idea that you have a block. Confirming and believing the fact that there is some block stopping you is only going to work against you in attaining a lucid dream.

You should try practicing your awareness more. Many people have trouble with lucid dreams as they never question their surroundings or break out of their tunnel vision that is their daily routine.

A few times a day, just stop wherever you are, and just look around you. Try and take in the surroundings and examine how things are (people, objects, landscape). Really study it, don't give it a 'meh' attitude, you really do have to care. Now after you spend 10-15 seconds just looking around and studying the surroundings, imagine you just woke into a dream. Ask yourself how you got here (in dreams you won't know), do a reality check, do your best to imagine what you would do if this was a dream and what might be different if it actually were a dream. Do this for another 10-15 seconds.

If you do this 10-20 times a day, your brain will start to acknowledge your concern for your surroundings and the fine details. This will be carried over into the dream world, and you will be far more aware of your surroundings than you are now. It should be enough for you to start seeing the subtle differences in dreams and will make you lucid.

Hope this helps! This is all I used to do to lucid dream.

Hey guys thank you for replying, just want to make a few things a bit clearer -

I do reality checks of different sorts throughout the day. Looking twice at my watch, re reading text on signs, I even have an hourly chime on my phone that I use as an RC. When I do an RC it isnt a case of "yup not dreaming"....I check in detail anything that seems out of the ordinary, check my surroundings against my dreamsigns etc...

I have been practicing these techniques for a few years, and the limited sucess I put down to just needing more time and training, I did not think of it as a block untill recently after having several lucid dream nights after drinking, and it is only recently that I have consciously deamed this problem to be a "block".

Thank you for the link, I have already listened to that, along with most of the other audio dreambooks online. I have read most of the material out there at present, including all of steven Laberge's papers/manuals etc. This isnt a case of not knowing what I should be doing or being unaware of the techniques that exist, its a case of having a mental barrier in achieving lucidity.

My dreams themselves I remeber most of the details, yet I never seem to have a watch on (or find it odd that I dont) .... never seem to encounter any signs or posters, my phone never beeps in my dream despite it beeping on my desk while im asleep (should filter through to my dream in someway but never does) .....Its like my brain is hiding all the RC avenues from me while im dreaming, I havent read about anyone else having this kind of problem...

Do you exercise or get any physical activity during the day? Do you have a job that is very mentally demanding?

I find that if I don't get any exercise and have been studying all day that my chances of having a lucid dream are very low. I'll still have vivid dreams but my mind cannot make the connection.

However, if my body is physically tired (like after a night of binge drinking), but I was more mentally relaxed, it almost feels like I'm prepped and ready for a lucid dream. All I can say is if the current methods you are taking aren't working, trying something different, just keep mixing things up until you find something that works.
