The reason you do not question these bizarre dreams you are having is because you have not trained your brain to do so. Normally when we sleep, we are unable to recognize the differences in a dream vs reality because that section of our brain is turned off. However, with enough reinforcement on the importance of dreams and recognizing when we are dreaming, our brain will adapt to our needs and will begin trying to figure out if we are dreaming. When it starts doing this, then you will actually notice some of the differences in your dream and will become aware that you are dreaming.
But how do we communicate the importance of recognizing dreams to our brain? Well that's the open-ended question. There are many, many methods in how to do so, ranging from a simple glitching of the mind to become awake in a dream (usually a placebo and works only once or twice) to something far more involving such as Tibetan Dream Yoga. This is basically realizing that dreams and reality are the same thing, and if you can recognize you're dreaming in waking life, it'll carry over to dreaming life, so you are to practice becoming aware of your surroundings and reality in your daily life.
It really depends what you want to get out of this. And yes, there is a modest-level of input to achieve lucid dreams almost every night, but very few have the discipline / comprehensive abilities to figure it out.
