      Is my brain wierd?

whenever i dream and its some sort of unrealistic scenario like i have a jet pack and im fighting terminator, i never question whats happening and say "hey, wtf is going on". but i know people who can tell they are dreaming super easily. is their brain strange or is mine?

Well, I do not know what you mean by strange, but I take it as a given that being more aware is better than being less. If being less aware is a good, then the dead are superior beings.

However, if one take the anti-intellectual movements in history as a standard for our future, then being brain dead is holy, holy holy. So, maybe the more aware are strange, but only the dead call that bad.

Most people, the vast majority, cannot easily tell when they are dreaming. There are a few who can easily recognize they're dreaming, but its an acquired skill. Everyone can do it.

The reason you do not question these bizarre dreams you are having is because you have not trained your brain to do so. Normally when we sleep, we are unable to recognize the differences in a dream vs reality because that section of our brain is turned off. However, with enough reinforcement on the importance of dreams and recognizing when we are dreaming, our brain will adapt to our needs and will begin trying to figure out if we are dreaming. When it starts doing this, then you will actually notice some of the differences in your dream and will become aware that you are dreaming.

But how do we communicate the importance of recognizing dreams to our brain? Well that's the open-ended question. There are many, many methods in how to do so, ranging from a simple glitching of the mind to become awake in a dream (usually a placebo and works only once or twice) to something far more involving such as Tibetan Dream Yoga. This is basically realizing that dreams and reality are the same thing, and if you can recognize you're dreaming in waking life, it'll carry over to dreaming life, so you are to practice becoming aware of your surroundings and reality in your daily life.

It really depends what you want to get out of this. And yes, there is a modest-level of input to achieve lucid dreams almost every night, but very few have the discipline / comprehensive abilities to figure it out.

Typically one won't question those sorts of things, because (unless I am mistaken,) the portions of your brain that control logic are largely inactive during normal non-lucid dreams.

your logic system goes from "ON" to... "POSSIBLY NOT THERE" when you dream.
      that's my explanation

      Well said.
rkenning, it's incredible isn't it? All my dreams are weird as hell too. But I'm trying to train my mind to question everything, working toward my goal of LDing. I've found Rathez's posts regarding awareness and so forth to be VERY insightful and informative.

i disagree with the idea that recognition is an acquired skill. I've always been able to easily tell whether or not I'm dreaming. Perhaps that is "weird". In fact, I'm pretty confident that my brain is rather strange. I'm cool with that. ^^
