      Questions about WILD

I have a few questions about the WILD technique for lucid dreaming.

      1. Do you try to ignore all perceptions, or focus on them?

      2. Does it matter if you let your thoughts wander?
      DOH!

For question 2: I think it's not good to let your thoughts wander. It's likely to fall asleep normally if you think about stuff and don't concentrate on your aim, WILD. I think that's one of my problems when I try to WILD.
Don't think about those damn kangaroos.

If I find that counting keeps me awake and my mind wants to wander.. I let it.. I just remember to bring it back to lucidity often.

For example: Your mind thinks: "I need to paint the house".. You should then think: "I am dreaming - this is all a dream" .. Your mind then thinks: "I wonder what color I should use?".. You should then think: "I am dreaming - this is all a dream".. etc..

      I hope this makes sense!

I've always thought that you were supposed to keep your mind active as you went to sleep, not focus on lucid dreaming.
      DOH!

I think you all have good points. But I think you have to pick a happy medium.
In my opinion if you do not let your thoughts wonder to a degree it would be almost but impossible to enter into the hypnagogic state. Through the hynagogic state, you can then enter into a dream.
But, there is always a but. But if you can keep your conscious active enough through your train of thought you can incubate a lucid dream state straight from a waking state. Or close to a waking state.

By focussing on a thought such as, I am going to remember to recognize that I am dreaming , you are doing two things.
      1. You are putting your conscious to sleep. Through repetion your right brain and it's train of thought get bored, for a lack of a better word and gives an opening for your subconscious for it to begin to take hold of your thoughts.
      2. You are putting your the thought into your brian and this giving your brian reason to think of it while asleep.
So if you don't pick a happy medium you will have one of two results (maybe more that I'm not aware of)
You will lie there with you conscious mind in control and get frustrated. and ask yourself, why can't I get to sleep.
Or you will let your subconscious mind gain full control and slip into the state of sleep.

A WILD is a dream you enter when you are still concious, to put it simply. For example you will be laying in bed and instantly go into a dream or 'step into it' and right off you are concious. It is to my knowledge that they do not last very long.

      Hope that helped a little.

      lol, Howetzer
I am about to try WILding tonight in about 6 hours(its pretty late were I am)

well this thought I am thinking of should I just push other things away and concentrate on, for example "this is a dream" by repeating it in my head

let me explain falling asleep consciously, the conscious and thought are almost two diffrent things, so when you fall asleep nomatter what your thinking about is not going to change wether or not you fall asleep, its just when you normaly go to sleep you often forget your lying in bed, and move your focus off your nervs, ignoring sleep paralysis, please tell me if you think I'm right, sense its just an idea

I wanna be the very best
      Like no one ever was
To lucid dream is my real test
To control them is my cause

If you are going to try to enter a WILD by way of HI or hynagogic imagarey, you can focus on a thought. But if you are too persistent it can at times become a problem with not becoming sleepy.
As you relax, focus on that image you have. When other images appear don't think about them, just let them \"be\". Some may manifest into greater images. This is good. Let it be. Even if it is not your intial thought.
If all goes well some of these images will become more vivid and the next thing you know you might find yourself awake in a dream.
*Through this entire process try and keep the thought of consciouness aroused.
Man, This is hard to explain in words.
Please post more if I can try to clarify anything.

I think I know where you are coming from. Most people say, "I don't have (HI)." I doubt it. It is just they are not intuned to it.
If you are thinking about something stressfull this could prevent you from going to sleep. I don't think that is what you are geting at. I do doubt that someone could have sleep paralysis, be conscious and ignore it. HI on the other hand I could see how it can be ignored.
