REM sleep different for a 13 year old?

I'm 13, and I woke up 5 and a half hours after I fell asleep by means of my alarm clock. I woke up a little and then closed my eyes to try WILDing, but after around 50 minutes I didn't see any colors or imagery, just darkness. Does it change with age or what?

What kind of a WILD technique is that? Throw it in the trash and try this:

YouTube - How to induce an Out Of Body Experience - part 1 - Sleep Paralysis

YouTube - How to Induce an Out-Of-Body Experience - Part 2 - Separation

(replace OBE w/ lucid dream if you want)

I can tell you for certain that this will work with most people! Absolutely no doubt in my mind, and btw don't be afraid of the creepyness of the videos

Yeah, but that's not the point of the thread though. I'm asking if REM sleep is shorter/longer for a 13 year old.

Everybody is different. Did you wake directly from a dream when your alarm went off? Try nudging your wake-up time 15 minutes later every day for a week. See if you can catch your magic time. Is your sleep schedule fairly consistent?

I'm 13 and I have this problem too. My REM cycles (checked using Sleep Cycle Alarm) are more spaced apart, so yours are probably too.

When I woke up from my last WILD attempt, I heard my alarm go off so loud I jolted awake, then realized what the noise was. I had no memory of any dreams. I don't have a consistent sleep schedule, I tend to go to sleep an hour later each night for 2 nights then move back a few minutes/hours

Not really no. It seems to vary, I don't have a consistent sleep schedule unless iI have school. I usually set my alarm to 3 or 5 o'clock in the morning and hope for the best.

Your goal is to get a lucid dream via WILD right?

What time do you go to sleep when you set that alarm, and how quickly do you fall asleep?

REM sleep becomes less as you get older. Babies spend 50-80% of their sleep in REM, and adults only 20-25%. So the younger you are, the more time you spend in REM during sleep. Hope that answers your question.

Does the exact figure really matter? I'd say probably more like 25%.

Shall I set the alarm for 4 hours, because it takes me a while to get to sleep. (I'm estimating anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.)
