      Some Questions about Lucid Dreams

Hello there, to start things off, I only found out what lucid dreaming was a day ago, and im very eager to start myself.

I have started my dream journal, my dream recalling is rather bad compared to others I THINK, not sure. I do remember fragments of my dream after almost every night, but thats about it.

Anyways, on to the point, I have a few questions i would like answered.

How long did it take for you before you had your first lucid dream?
What method do you think is best for beginners?
How long does it feel like you are in a lucid dream? (Approximentaly)
Im only fourteen years old, is there anything special i should "watch out for"?
If your main language is not english, do you imagine different things like for example, the "Am i dreaming?" In english or your main language?

Welcome to DV, Eclipse. My first lucid dream was my second night of actual trying. Had been thinking about it the entire two days, so repetition won over.

My personal recommendation would be to focus on 3 main things now. 1.) Dream Recall 2.) Reality Checks when something changes or odd happens and 3.) WBTB: Waking up a time or two on your own throughout the night, and do not move. This will help for other Lucid induction methods later.

My longest experience was perhaps 20-30 minutes of real-time. As for advise, I'd advise you of putting thoughts of WILD's away until you've got a couple dozen lucids on you. Try occasionally, if you like, but don't get hung up on it.

      Good luck. =]

Welcome, Eclipse. My first lucid dream was in my early teens and completely by accident. I simply realized I was in a dream. The best method for first attempts, IMHO, is visualization combined with deep relaxation techniques. Reassure yourself many many times before falling asleep that you WILL wake up in a dream. Learn to question reality, even in your waking hours (AKA reality checks). Anyhoo, good luck to you!

Hey again, thanks for all the anwers, I will try the best i can when i go to bed again, however, i have another question for you, what is it that causes you to wake up?
I mean, since when you're "inside", the dream is built around you, made entirely for you, how come we can wake up when we dont want to?

Isent it possible to remain in the dream for as long as id like?
Because from what i read, it seems like theres always a time limit of what you can do inside. Or is that something you just dont think about when you're inside?

I attempted last night, I was so excited to get to try it. I had been practising reality checks all day, reading the forums all day
and read everything about what to do. I go to bed and visualise myself being asleep, dreaming. Then i visualize myself becoming lucid.
I do this for a while until i start repeating a mantra I have "When i dream, i will be aware that im dreaming".
      I fall asleep and...!

And i wake up in the morning without a single memory of any dream at all.
So much for my first attempt.

In the three and a half months I've been trying to lucid dream.....I've had only 10 - 15 lucid dreams. Some are so vague, I can just barely remember some hint of being lucid for a second. But my first lucid dream happened just days after I learned about lucid dreaming. Maybe within three days of starting a dream journal and I had a couple amazing lucid dreams. I was kind of excited at first because I got successful so quickly, but I wasn't able to repeat the results for a long time.

This really depends on each person. What method seems most favorable to you? Personally I don't like the idea of trying to stay awake while body goes to sleep....I don't think I'll ever attempt to do a WILD. Plus the idea of sleep paralysis scares me. But at the same time, you have no conscious control on your mind/body if you are attempting to DILD; it's mostly a matter of luck if you can remember to do an RC in your dreams.

What I'd suggest is to do all the research about lucid dreams, find out all the methods and tricks you can use....then go from their and keep experimenting every night to see what will work best for you.

Mine have been relatively short. The longest I've had might have been like five min. I'm really surprised to see someone had a 20-30 min lucid dream above.

If anything I'd say your young age will work to your advantage because your mind/body is still developing. It's a lot easier to learn new skills/habits when you are younger than when you are older. I'm sure if I was 14 I'd pick up lucid dreaming lot faster than I can now.

      Whatever your sub-conscious will recognize.

It's way too early to be disheartened just yet....there are people that have no luck even after a year and their still trying.
Try keeping a dream journal for several months and see how things go.

How long did it take for you before you had your first lucid dream?
      Almost one year I think.

What method do you think is best for beginners?
      DILD.

How long does it feel like you are in a lucid dream? (Approximentaly)
I don't understand this question. Do you ask about the lenght ? If yes, mine were, mostly, short.

Im only fourteen years old, is there anything special i should "watch out for"?
      No.

If your main language is not english, do you imagine different things like for example, the "Am i dreaming?" In english or your main language?
Any works. For me, it can be either in english or portuguese, lately I have been using mantras in Portuguese, but the sentences in english are shorter and more to-the-point.

Hey, again thanks for all the answers.
I tried again tonight, focusing entirely on recalling My dreams.
I also set alarms to wake me up 1.5 hours after tje previous one,
But i only managed to get fragments from one dream, the rest are gone.
I hope it can be trained or otherwise i dont think this is for me.

Sometimes it just *clicks* that you're dreaming, even when you don't want to. It's just a sudden awareness, you know? I'm pretty sure it's random, though someone who knows more about it may be able to tell you more. I believe it's just that you suddenly realize you're dreaming out of nowhere, kind of like when you at first don't understand how to do something but then it *clicks*, you know?

Isent it possible to remain in the dream for as long as id like?

Well, it's pretty difficult. There are many things that can happen that will wake you up: you may lose concentration on the fact that you're dreaming and become too immersed in it, resulting in a loss of lucidity; you may go through an action that wakes you up; you may even just simply be waking up and not maintain your lucidity. There's a lot of factors, and while there's no "time limit" (it depends on how long you sleep) it all comes down to how long you can stay lucid. It's hard for beginners initially to engage in more than a couple minutes, or even seconds, of lucidity (it gets better as you progress.)

All I can say is good luck. Don't get disheartened so early, though! Try more methods, stick around here (it may trigger some lucid vibes :O), and just keep trying! Try, try, try! Again, good luck Eclipse .
I am the darkness that surrounds me, I am the air that surrounds me, I am the land that hides me, I wait to strike, From the darkness, I wait to kill, From out of thin air, I am invisible, And I am silent death.
~They say, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." And some people wonder why I'm so quiet around them .
