Thread: Tell your self to have a lucid dream - easy way?

Ok little did you know the subconscious is 10000 times smarter than you. If you tell it something then it probably would just counter act your response. Also the only way to working with your subconscious is to be fully in the here and now to be completely conscious of your self.

I don't know. But I definitely see it as a possibility. I often try to tell my subconscious things, and I find it rarely works, although it sometimes surprisingly seems to. I think I might have done this very successfully a few years ago, when I went from having no lucid dreams to about 2 every night by somehow convincing my subconscious to do it. Yes, I think it would be considered a MILD. I'm guessing that there probably is some way to just tell your subconscious to have lucid dreams, but most people, including me, are not very good at it.

It's possible to influence your subconscious, but it's not a simple task. The subconscious won't respond directly to a conscious command, not matter how logical or determined it is. Instead, it is most influenced by instincts, beliefs and long-term memory. The most common way to establish an idea in your long-term memory is to through consistent repetition. That's why one can succeed through practice and developing good habits. I think building habits is key to MILD, WILD, or any other technique. But you could apply the same general idea of repetition in a different creative way, such as with affirmations.

On the other hand, hypnosis is a way to influence the subconscious on a must shorter time frame. I can't say I know much about it, but it might be the most interesting topic for you to explore further on this topic.

Like more easy than a mild or wild. Now i'm not saying this to be lazy just logical. I mean, is their some way to just tell your subconscious you want to have lucid dreams every night or something.

If your subconscious is the same as you, wouldn't it want to work for you? If you tell it you want lucid dreams, wouldn't that be easier than tricking your body or something?

Now, I suppose that's what a mild is, but if anyone could shed some light on this I would be quite grateful. No sarcastic responses please.

A more effective way I used and worked was to get a lined notepad and before sleep or whenever you awaken from sleep in the night..not too tired write out your intent as many times as you want until you can really feel the intent burn through your heart in other words confident with what you write. My sentence was..."I will remember to check my watch and realise I am dreaming". It's the easy way I suppose. The subconcious is not a you or a self where it can be aware of you or what you want. It is like a registry that stores the most significant bits of information from the concious mind and if it gets far enough into REM it manifests in the dream as whatever. So in a nutshell the more 'disturbing' or unresolved the information is i.e lucidity the more likely to make it into the subconcious. An example is to switch on a light and leave it but have the intention to have to turn it off or you'll be wasting electricity but at the same time you are in bed and sleepy so it is unresolved and that may manifest in the dream as you went to off a light can be any light but the action got through and you realize the light behaves funny and with your day training remember to RC and the a lucid dream is induced.

There is an excellent book, 'The Power of Your Subconscious Mind' by Joseph Murphy. The critical problem with MILD techniques is overcoming conscious resistance. The subconscious will only act upon what you consciously believe to be true. For example If you say an affirmation saying, 'Tonight I will realise that I'm dreaming' and you have a conscious arguement saying, 'No I won't because I never realise that I'm dreaming' then the subconscious will act upon what you consciously believe to be true. If you don't address your conscious resistance to change you will eventually compound the problem instead of heading towards completion of your goal. You can actually bypass this whole process and hypnotise yourself in a few minutes and Dr. Robert Anthony has an excellent online course which teaches a very clever technique on how to correctly address the subconscious when you want to make a change. The course is The Secret of Deliberate Creation.

That is too true and the hard part is consciously believing unconditionally.

What if I just said, I Want to have a lucid dream, would that help?

D00d, you should be telling yourself this every single night several times! Of course it helps at least a little bit. But you should also keep doing other techniques. Also, what imj said helps. Instead of just saying it, write it down like 50 times.

I can say this has worked for me with nightmares when I was younger. Everynight before I went to bed, I would say, "tonight, I will not have a bad dream." I'd say it like three times, which was a little ocdish. It worked for me and I haven't had a nightmare since. I don't say that mantra before I go to bed anymore, but it worked when I was younger. But I've tried it with lucid dreaming and it hasn't worked. I think its because I don't mean as much as much as stopping my nightmares did. So you have to really mean it and I might work. But I have no clue.

Try saying a mantra when you are in a very relaxed state, get in this relaxed state with meditation.

Tell that to your subconscious and that is what you will get. You will end up wanting lucid dreams. Your affirmation must be in the present tense, not future tense.

Try saying a mantra when you are in a very relaxed state, get in this relaxed state with meditation.

How do I do meditation? I've heard it around the forums a bit, but what exactly is it. My guess is that you just try to relax, and focus on something while breathing deeply, is this about it or is there more?

You shouldnt have to say that - If you truly WANT to have a lucid dream - then you will eventually. Its all about opening up to realising what is true.

One thing I know, dreams are usually emotional things that happen in your waking life that you subconscious takes in. Its usually takes in info that is really meaningful to you and makes you think a lot. So if you really believe you can lucid and you really have this gut feeling that you know your are a lucid dreamer. That way, your subconscious will soak up lucid dreaming and realize its important information, and thus transfer it to a dream. But you still have be able to realize your dreaming and catch the signs that your subconscious is telling you your dreaming

Except for when you instinctively know your dreaming, or a dream character tells you your dreaming.

Well if a dream character is telling your dreaming, you still might not know your dreaming. I've had dreams that someone would so say, oh your lucid dreaming right now, and I didnt even know because my awareness sucked.

Here are some things I know about speaking to your subconscious:

- You have to be very specific. You can ask to realize you are dreaming when you are dreaming. You can also ask to remain in a calm state, to prolong the dream. You can also ask to wake up after the dream, for superior recall. You can also ask for an urge to write down the dream upon awakening, for further recall. So, I do believe you can ask to have a lucid dream -- and maybe you do have a lucid dream every time, but you don't remember it. Be very specific!

- Affirmations work. Personally, I like to write about lucid dreaming before bed. I tell myself that I'll recognize I'm dreaming, and I'll write about where the dream will take place, who will be there, what I'll do, details details details!

- Hypnosis works. Lay yourself down, attend to the relaxation of your body. Feel each body part get heavier and more comfortable. Feel your skeleton turn to stone, so that you are very heavy and can't move. Feel your eyelids press into your eyes, so heavy that you don't even try to open them. When your body is sufficiently heavy and relaxed, this is the time to talk to your subconscious, in any way you feel comfortable. Speak in the form of a prayer, or have a dialogue:

"Hey subconscious."
"Hey buddy."
"I would like to have a lucid dream tonight."
"Really. Tell me more."
"While I am dreaming, I want to realize I am dreaming."
"Oh, that's nifty."
"And I want to hang out in the dream for 20 minutes or so."
"Got it."
"And when it's done, I want to wake up and write about it."
"Good idea."
"So you'll help me out with all this?"
"Coming right up!"

...or something like that.

your subconscious or super subconscious mind need very specific answers like you said time dates places the more info you have the better. the more it know the more you know!
