They do to an extent. You have to test the totem to make sure that it behaves differently in
a dream than it does in reality. The idea with DiCaprio's top was that it would never topple.
It's a beautiful reality check but unfortunately, it doesn't work. Tops will topple in a dream
just like in reality. So basically you really have to test whatever object you are going to use.
I'm currently in the process of testing a tuning fork as a totem. I haven't gotten it out in a
dream yet but it's kind of at the lower end of my todo list. If I become lucid I'll do it real
quick before go off on an adventure.
