Almost DEILDed - Tips for a Newbie?

Basically this morning when I woke up I tried to WILD with no luck (I don't seem to be able to get into SP very well) so I thought I'd try DEILD. Recently I have been waking up after almost evey single dream (with no alarm etc.) so this seems perfect for me. I woke up, didn't move and thought about the dream I was just in.

The rest is kind of vague; I think I was only the faintest bit lucid. The first thing I did in the dream was RC (as I've never had a proper lucid before) and I could breathe through my nose when I was pinching it. Excited I quickly tried to push one hand through the other but only the tip went through. I remember my hands being blurry as well. At this point I completely lost lucidity and the dream carried on as if that had never happened

I think DEILD is the way for me (although I'm gonna keep trying to WILD).
I know I needed to become aware of my senses e.g. feel things, taste things, smell things etc. but I don't understand why I lost my lucidity straight after an RC.

What did I do wrong and what can I do to prevent this happening in the future?
      Thanks for the help

Well lucidgamer if this was your first experience, then the odds are that you were very excited and didn't really have a plan for when you became lucid, you realised that you were in a dream yet you didn't really know what to do.
Now I'm hardly an expert but my advise would be to picture yourself becoming lucid, ok you do the normal, RC and stabalise, maybe feel some of the textures of your surroundings, smell and sight like you mentioned too. But then picture what your going to do next, I mean this is a hard thing, I can do anything I want, gargghh choices!!
If you don't keep focus you will lose lucidity as you mentioned and the dream will play out as it wants -
How dare it, it's our subconscious and we want control, right?

Before you go to sleep just plan what your gonna do, e.g I will stabalise, then i will try flying or try searching for someone, just get your brain focused on something and keep the RC's and stabilisation techniques up and you'll be able to lengthen your lucid fun time!
Although more control will come with more practise, but the more you believe the quicker it is! =].

      Good luck mate!!!

That is some very good advice nito. Congrats on becoming lucid, LucidGamer. Once you performed your nose pinch RC, you realized you were dreaming. I would suggest performing the nose pinch several times in succession. Hopefully, that will help plant the "I am dreaming" idea nice and deep. Take a moment to look around you and say to yourself, "I am dreaming right now. This is my dream world." Give everything a minute to settle down and try to stay fairly calm. Like nito said, this was your first lucid dream, these things tend to happen. Just take the advice you get and keep practicing. With every attempt you gain valuable experience. Good luck to you and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks for the help guys! Will have some goals in my mind and will firmly plant myself in the dream before doing anything next time. It just felt like I didn't even get to be lucid because it was over so fast. Next time will go better though! Thanks again

You did nothing wrong. Not all LD's have the same vividness or intensity. What you did right was visualize the dream you were just in. I have said it here many times and will continue to state that visualization is the key to lucid dreaming. This is simply because our big human brain visualizes and dreams in the same area... the secondary visual cortices.
