2 New tecniques(feel free to experiment and report back!)

      2 new techniques(Experimental)

I have been utterly fascinated with lucid dreaming since i first discoverd it some 3 years back, in that period i have kept a dream journal that now has about 300 pages in it and have conducted surveys on my dreams(which is highly informative!, you should all definatnly try it, great idea for gaging dream signs...ie, what enviroment do you find yourself in most)...

I have connected with the dreamworld and now appreciate it so much more/
I have had just 22 LDs in this time but each one has been almost life affirmingly amazing!

Anyway, as far as im concerned the WILD tec is still by far the most powerfull, the most fun, and the easitest to remember after awakening. It can be hard but it is just so amazing to step conciiously into a dream and too feel all the sensations that go with it..

Anyway both these techniques are experimental and I'd like to know what you guys think or if you would like to try this and report back in a few weeks!

      TEC 1

The eyes open eyes closed technique(EOEC):

This may be a bit extreme, but that is why it may just work!
it is infact so extreme that one may only feel like trying it just once a week.

The trick here is to literally deprive yourself of any visual stimuli for a full day, i.e use a blindfold(a clean sock will do or be creative) to cover your eyes.
Ideally this would be a day of relaxation and literrally moving around the house blind.
      Maybe a saturday.

This is simply it, the whole trick is to, thoughout the day, remind yourself that "next time I can see.... i am dreaming" and use it as a mantra. The sheer contrast between not seeing for over 12 hours and then suddenly seeing in a dream may just jolt your brain into the right state of overwhelming shock to remind you that you are dreaming.

alternativly(and maybe more effectvily) you could only partly obscure your vision by using a material that is still "see throughable". not only would this be easier but it may also annoy you, which is good becuase that releif of being able to see properly may remind you you are dreaming!

the mantra in this case wud be "next time i can see clearly i will be dreaming".

      TEC 2

      The Visual Remembrance Tecnique(VRT)

This invovles(and i have already done it for the last 3 days) placing paper with a red dot in the middle(or any suffiecnly obvious symbol you like) at particular places in your house that you visit often, i.e the bathroom wall.
I reccomend even in the hall as you wil be coming up and downstairs alot.
i have 4 around the house.

simply a cut piece of paper with a bright red dot in the middle stuck to the wall via ever usefull blu tak.

The trick here is, ever single time you walk past one you truly question reality as well as perform a reality check(my personall favorite is checking if you can breath through you nose and mouth while they are covered).

This will amount to quite a volume of reality checks in the day and you will find yourself actaully looking up at the sign ever now and then subconciously which is good.

The goal is to impress these reality check symbols in your mind so much that it becomes accustomed to seeing them in the house. therefore they will hopefully pop up in your dreams(granted, you must be dreaming about your house,
my survey showed in am in my house more then any other palce in my dream enviroments, next was random parks oddly?)..

Intriguingly, I have already had these symbols appear in my dream, it was actaully in the wrong place(a different wall) so i performed a reality check in the dream and as soon as i realised it was a dream i actaully got dragged up to the ceiling by an invisible force and woke up in mighty sleep paralysis, but this is great evidence that it could work!

Anyway, what do you guys think, will anyone put them too the test,or are they simply too extreme!

Im off to blind fold myself!!

The blindfold thing seems like it could work, but if it doesn't you have wasted an enitire day so yeah that might be a little extreme for me. But I will definitelly try the symbols around the house technique because I dream alot of my house too and many of those dreams are False awakenings so I guess that would be helpful. Yeah I do WILD too, but when I fail it would be nice to have a random lucid dream so I will try this out : )

Now I have put one on my computer mouse, one in my bathroom, one one my Iphone and one in the kitchen =)

      Anyway really cool ideas!

Cool, this is very creative of you! I advise also every time you see this symbol(as well as doing a reality check, i would reccomend checking can you breath through your nose if its blocked with your fingers) you should also visuallise yourself becoming lucid and even stabilizing it etc..
thanks for the support and i wish you good luck!

Do you mean visualise it in my head or really pretend that it is a dream. And yes I do the noseplug reality check everytime.
So like this: Hmm is this a dream? (Look around me and tell myself what I see, look at my hands, noseplug reality check, rub my hands.)

i mean visualise an actual dream scene, maybe incubate a particlar place and use it as a "hub"...this is one of my main goals now, to incubate a lucid hub to start my adventrues from! mine is a beach.

Of course, just becoming more aware as you do your reality check will be also effective, look at teh colours around you, the contrast, the detail you missed since you werent looking closely, the grain of wood, the crosshatching of textiles and how the light plays around the room!

Be thankfull and concious of the mystery of your very existence and you will be more concious in the dreamworld too...

technique #2 has some merit based on visualization and memory assimilation during dreams. I would write the words 'You are dreaming' under the red dot. Nice post.

I might have to try method 2, and maybe try m1 before summer vacation is over
      Nice post, awesome ideas.
Did you think of them, or are these from some other source?

The first method sounds very interesting. I'll definitely try it in the school holidays. (In Australia, we have school :O ) thanks for sharing!

I'm considering writing "You are dreaming.", or "I am dreaming." on my dry erase board at work in my cube.

Which of these do you guys think is more effective?

Not sure if this was already suggested, but wouldn't a better way to blind yourself for a day be just wearing sunglasses? So you don't have to be fully blind and it's an easy way to be partially blinded, and not look like a tool as much.

This is some interesting stuff, I have to say, some really good ideas here. Won't try it though, as I can't afford to be blind all day, and I live with my family, so sticking up paper all over the place wouldn't be too smart.

I used the second method, and was able to get an LD out of it after a few days. I did not want anyone to know about all the things I'm trying to become lucid, so I adapted it to be just when I look at a picture that my sister drew, which we have about 10 of through the house, I would do a reality check. Something similar could work for most people, without suspicion of the fact that you're doing reality checks! Awesome method, i like it!

great! im glad you had succsess so fast!! the key is not to lose interest, dont make it an automatic thing but REALLY check your reality, look at the finer details in your enviroment.
      keep it up

The first one seems much too impractical to perform on a daily basis. It'd be interesting for a one-time thing, but one can't blindfold themselves forever, especially when they have school and other work to be done. The second one is pretty much just a variation of using cues or reminders to do RCs.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Actually, as a variation, to the first techniuqe, and alot more reasonable, what if you say, got some tape, and put paper on the end. You then taped it in a way that you could see a touch of the paper through out the day, and then say "When I can't see the paper, I'm dreaming"
      Just a though.

VERY interesting idea here, and a lot more practical he he, it would get to the point where it may even really annoy you and of course that is what you want becuase that releif could carry over to the dream world as a dreamsign! thanks

I'm sure it's alot less annoying than being blind all day

Or do something that inhibits the senses and actions for a day - like wearing gloves or blocking up an ear.
