That was a reference to The Alchemist.

In short it's about mastering awareness. And taking full conscious control over all energy available to you. The end goal being enlightenment, nay - immortality.

The Alchemist? Is that a book by any chance? Because I read a book called that but I'm not sure if it's the same one you are talking about.

i read it. this summary doesn't do it justice, as it actually contains a lot more information. though i do find carriage returns and breaks to be key in written communication, in all the time people have spent whining about how hard it is to read they could have read it over twice, saved it and broken it up, and / or printed it.

it opens up with a bit of Castaneda's Yaqui sorcerer precepts, centered around the idea of "folly" or misperception in various states and reclaiming wasted energy that is burnt up on useless internal dialogue. also included is the idea of "assemblage points" or foci of consciousness.

then on to some unique breathing and visualization exercises (of which "facing the double" is the only one i have seen, though the breathe one is along common breathing visualization themes) and a fairly novel summary of several common techniques, including WBTB, focusing on hypnogogia, and the daily wristwatch RC. also mentioned is the "keep the arm raised into hypnogogia" technique which laberge mentioned about robert louis stevenson in ETWOLD, i believe.

also mentioned is an expansion of the whole "wearing jewelery" which has shown up on these forums as "the inception" technique. basically, one places a bracelet or a ring on that they wouldnt normally wear and the physical sensations / memories tend to show up in dreams as a dreamsign.

overall its an overview on LDing w/ an initial pretty spiritualist approach, which then transitions into more concrete techniques often seen on these forums, but from a set of fresh eyes, so to speak. it was refreshing once i made it past the castanada bits. i do like some castenada, but dont take it very seriously after the end of "the art of dreaming."

i thought this was already a pretty good summary. you seem to want the cliff's notes, maybe debrajane can help you out there.

philosophy is the basis of technique. however, you could just start reading from "TRICKS OF THE TRADE" on for the techniques.

So how can this help us with our own endeavors? What special advice and tips does it give?
Excuse me for not really caring/minding about the art of dreaming or the deepness it entails, all I want to know is is there any practical advice to be found in the text? Like does it tell you a new way to see lucid dreaming as a concept or does it even just show you how to approach lucid dreaming each night, mentally?

That's all I want to know in the end. Think of me liking only the simple things in life like monster trucks and watching t.v., but really I'm not mentally inept and lazy. I would like to learn about lucid dreaming as a topic, but right now I have yet to even try it, so forgive me if I just want to get straight to the point and get some experiences.

I see you don't want to try and sift through the whole text just to tell me! That's fine, I just thought there was something in here I could take away and practically use, but if it's more philosophical than methodical then I don't see how I can find much of it to benefit me right now.

No, that was just a wild guess based on the data that is available to both of us.

i enjoyed reading your words, anybody who can observe the world from a perspective other than himself and then share what he sees with the rest of us has done a good deed to us all, thanks

Waw, I started reading and didnt stop untill I read it all. This gives me the motivation to go on exploring the dreamworld and awareness.

Last year i found this forum and tried LD-ing and dream journalling for a few weeks before I gave up. ironically I had my first few lucids in the weeks after that.
A few weeks ago I came back at this forum to give it another shot and I created an account as a proof for myself that I was serieus about it. I think this thread really gave me the enthusiasm I needed.
      Thank you sorcer!

I also bought the first book of castaneda and really enjoy reading it

I agree with what people are saying about lucid dreaming...but isn't better for them to learn themselves? Sure talking about it and letting people know what the deal is makes its a bit easier to deal with whats happening. But i've been reading these post about "void tech" and whatnot...and Im thinking to myself....do these guys know their actually trying to achieve OBE instead of LD? These post probably just confirm that OBE isn't real and its just a higher form of LD. I mean falling alseep and waking to a dream, is what i consider LD. Nothing can't be taught just guided. Learning how to track your conscious when on the verge of dreaming is the most simplest way to explain.

Not sure I understand what you're saying. Do you mean everybody should just have to figure out how to LD for themselves, and that there shouldn't be any guides or books about technique?

So, should Dreamviews just be disbanded then?

Even if you want to find out on your own, at least you have a large amount of resources to get you started. If there is a large amount of knowlege you may as well take advantage of it, find out what people know, and then go your own way with dreaming. I find I make the most dreaming discoverys after I have had an LD, so it is good to at least get a push into it imo.

ding ding ding. that was my point. you can guide them so they can learn for themselves. They can't learn it if they dont understand it eh. lol at the last post saying deamview should be disband. thats funny yo.

Until i read some of the accounts here... i had never experienced a vibration or rumbling when sleep paralysis was setting in... but it was very real when it did happen just a couple days ago. Without someone else's account / explanation of what the hell that was, i probably wouldn't have had the foggiest idea

I don't even think you need to mention this 420Dreamer. You say that people should find their own way and learn it themselves, but obviously you don't think DV should be disbanded. So everyone is allowed to look up guides but shouldn't just be led hand in hand to easy LD's? Well I have yet to come across anyone or anything that can lead everyone to simple, effortless LDs. So really what you're saying is that you would like it if there was no simple way for newbies to "cheat" to an LD. Well luckily enough no such method or person can do that for you.

lol where did all this come from? i swear people think of the most randomness ways to flame -.-
ok let me break this down for you. I never said any about effortless LD. Never said anything about "cheat". Never said anything about DV being disband.
You making all these assumption shows how naive you are. all im saying is that you can lead a camel to the water but you can't make it drink. how did you not get that?

I tried talking myself into hypnosis again, but this time I felt like I was spinning around like I was laying on one of those things you spin around at the park ( can't think of their name...). anyway I didnt go farther than that but just enjoyed it since it felt pretty cool.
