only 1 lucid dream in a year??

      Hi,

I have been trying now for nearly a year to have lucid dreams. When i first started i had 3 lucid dreams that woke me up straight away so i don't count them, the other one i spent most of the dream doing reality checks and forgot to enjoy the dream.

I started with a dream journal which was frustrating in the beginning as i didn't remember dreams for about a month, then i started to remember up to 4 a night.

I stopped after a 4 months of trying only having the one lucid dream. i have been really trying since October to have lucid dreams but without success. I have been trying all types of foods, drinks and vitamins all they seem to do is make dreams more vivid or more memorable.

i have also tried listening to beats and repeated affirmations at night. i also tried the method of becoming so aware of your reality that you will instantly know when your dreaming, which i had trouble with.

I really don't want to give up on this as i know i can do it, can anyone give me any suggestions to try?

      thanks in advance

I bought my first lucid dream book 22 years ago and had my first lucid dream the night after reading the book. I didn't have my next lucid dream for another 2 years. The fastest most successful method I have come across to date is from the following book at this link

Here are the results from seminars run by the author:

      For 1-5 attempts (1-3 days) - 50%
      For 6-10 attempts (2-7 days) - 80%
      For 11-20 attempts (3-14 days) - 90%

Well I was going to post my opinion, but I never saw the link to that book before. I just scanned it and it looks really cool! Especially the parts about touching objects as you move through a room, or glance at objects, such as one's hands, 4-6 inches from one's sight. In general, things that increase a dreamer's awareness during waking life, will help him or her achieve lucidity in a dream.

I'm so going to read that book on my next day off, unless I can't find it again or if I forget. But that's ok, I'll see McWillis again and that will remind me.

I read that same book as well a few months ago. I should read over it again. I haven't had many lucids either, mostly building up dream recall and noticing dream signs.

      Really good read.

Find what works for you and stick with it. The fast majority of advice I have found on the Internet does not apply to me. I visualize as I fall asleep. That works for me (sometimes) . ADA, substances, RC's ad nauseum, binaural beats ... these things do not help me at all. However, they might help someone else. Find what works for you... believe in it... and it will help you!

      mcwillis,
thanks for that link very interesting but due to mine and my partners sleeping habits i can't do some of the things mentioned in the book like setting an alarm after 6 hours unfortunately this wont work for me. i will still try to follow it through natural awakenings during the night though.

like i said before i have had 4 lucid dreams 3 very very short ones (waking as soon i became lucid) and a long one. the only thing i was doing before and not now is regular reality checks during the day i may try this again
