There is no "best technique". It really depends on the person. Some people find WILD to be perfect, while some people find DILD to be perfect. You just have to experiment with every technique until you find the one that works best your personally. DILD and MILD are usually considered the easiest techniques though.

hmm... I think i will try WILD because my dream recall is not very good at all... Well anyhow does age effect the ability to lucid dream?

I don't think age really has much of an effect on lucid dreaming. I think as you grow older dreaming becomes less frequent though.

      Starting out with WILD, eh?
I started out like you, rushing onto WILD as it seemed like the coolest and fastest technique, but failed and gave up on it.
I am not trying to discourage you, maybe you have talent for WILD. I'm just implying that you should practise DILD aswell in case you fail at WILD, like most do.

And concerning your age... I was 14 when i found this forum, and was having LD's two weeks later.

      Welcome to the forum

Most people start off with the DILD technique since it's more common to achieve lucidity this way, however it's hard to predict when it will happen.

I suggest you try that first. Do a lot of reading on lucid dreaming and do reality checks often. Work on your recall by writing down your dreams in a journal. What's the point of having a lucid dream if you can't remember?

      Good luck

I find the WBTB / DILD early morning to be the easier or more 'natural' technique, so this would suit anyone who wanted to 'learn' how to LD.
However I do agree with Freda that attempting to WILD firstly would be like running before you could walk.
I have attempted WILD on the 'odd' occasion, only as an exercise to get to know my own body. E.g. How it feels to relax & see imagery with the different but subtle levels of conciousness.
Anything 'more' from me trying it out would have been a bonus, obviously.
Regarding age. The younger you are then the more imagination you have, I think, which helps. However the older you get then the more experience you gain.
I also agree with louie54's recommendations.
Take it slowly & don't do too much as it is (very) easy to get discouraged & give up whatever the technique - I quote from MY own experiences.
You will find lots of help, info. & encouragment here on DV, etc.
      Good luck Sarimdesert.

Trust me i have read alot about lucid dreaming and there is no way m giving up It took me some time to find this site and it is by far the best site on Lucid dreaming.. Hmm... But i am still a little bit confused about the difference in a LD and a normal dream.. I mean if i wake up after an LD wouldn't it just feel like a remembered Dream?

Technically I don't think there is any difference between a 'normal' dream and a 'lucid' dream IMO, because the dream only becomes 'lucid' when you, yourself, become aware of it.
Probably the one of the best 'experts' in this field is Stephen Laberge if you wish to find out more.
However I see what you mean regarding the confusion.
Generally if I get a lucid then I usually know about it. However they can vary considerably in quality. This is the problem as they can be like London buses sometimes: You get one after another - then nothing for a while!
Hence the importance in writing the dreams down, gaining more recall & noting down your (personal) dreamsigns, etc.
If you wish to try a particular technique however then there are some useful tutorials here on DV.
      Good luck!

Hmm... Thanks alot thatz some really great info. .... And i think i am going to stick to WBTB AND DILD because I have tried WILD Like 10 times maybe and have failed miserably but i will try it once i get better in becoming lucid. But that's the real problem for me i have a dream but i just don't realize it or become lucid in it... I remember having wet dreams but i didn't actually become lucid in them.... to realize i m dreaming thats gonna be tough though i regularly perform RC's.

lol if you say you are not experienced with LDing, WILD is definitely not for you... WBTB and DILD are less likely to give you a lucid dream but if you practice you can still train yourself to lucid dream at will.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to disagree with this statement. Although it may be different for different people, in general, MILD technique to get DILD lucids, coupled with daytime awareness http://www.dreamviews.com/f49/sat-sp...puffin-100798/ and WBTB is a wonderful way to give you frequent lucids. Probably more likely than WILD (unless you are really good at WILD). Happy dreams to all

I've been lucid dreaming for over 10 years, and WILDing has given me a small fraction of my hundreds of lucid experiences.

I fail at WILD because I can't wake up in the middle of the night and get involved in something like that, that takes 10 minutes or more. It's really difficult to find the will to WILD I find. I used to read blogs of people trying to WILD, it seemed like they had difficulty with the motivation to do it like I did.

Your enthusiasm reminds me of when I first joined the site. But I'm afraid to say there is no technique that people consider "the best", we don't even have a general ranking system. However I would say, having good dream recall and high awareness is what will get you the most lucid dreams. The answers to that would be, the journal, and a technique like WBTB which will help your mind come awake after the deep sleep state (roughly the first 4 hours into the night). These two techniques I think will enhance any other technique that your working with, I would say they are the fundamental techniques. Other techniques are more personal, depending on how light or deep you sleep, how fast you can fall asleep, it might effect what works for you. I know I sleep really light, and am great with techniques like DEILD (basically like WILDing, but without all that waiting). But it's rare to find someone who seems to have as much luck with DEILD as me.

Visualization and progressive muscle relaxation tends to bring on a form of self-hypnosis and non-REM lucid dreams. This has worked for me for over 20 years... what works for you will be a journey of discovery. Good luck to you!

Well I've been planning on starting with WILD too, I imagine I had progress considering I had somewhat results =/ maybe I'm just talented
Well tonight is another night and I've recalled my first dream last night ...Nothing to be too happy about =] but I don't want to get discouraged by needing to practise a different technique.

I find WILD the most convenient of the few i read about.
