      DEILD - Anyone with experience?

I have practiced WILD before, and was never able to achieve sleep paralysis. When doing DEILD, how long does it take to reenter the dream, or to reach sleep paralysis?? I feel like once I get there I'll be able to stay in it to get to the dream.

Yeah I have quite a lot of experience with this i have the same problem with wilding too my mind wanders way too much. What i trained myself to do was to wake up keeping my eyes shut then not moving at all with eyes shut it just took a few seconds (that i remember) around 20 seconds then i fell back to sleep, works well though if you get it right.

I've mostly done WILD's, but since learning about DEILD's recently I've had a few. It's very quick - a few seconds as pieman mentions. Maybe 5-10 for me. It's really a great method.

Will DEILD not work if you open your eyes?

In my opinion a DEILD is the very same thing as WILD with one exception. A WILD has become tied to (in this forum, anyhoo) deliberately waking up at a specific time in the middle of the night. DEILD assumes you have awoken from a dream randomly. Here is a trick I have learned... visualize the dream you woke up from. When the vibrations come (SP) get ready to be lucid!

Am I right in thinking you shouldn't move / open your eyes etc?

Also, it can be when you have woken from a regular dream right? As well as lucids.

      Ooh, their breath is warm
      And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
      Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper

My DEILDs last 10 to 60 seconds (before I enter LD) afair. It's important to be patient for me. Sometimes I think I am not in REM anymore, but I manage it after almost a minute.

Please don't worry about SP. When you wake up from a dream, either regular or lucid, don't move and don't open your eyes. Don't start thinking about anything, except your previous dream or any new dream scenario. Don't wake yourself up too much. You have to be just barely awake.

If you do that, you should stay in SP from your previous dream (unless it's the end of that REM) and primed for another dream. It takes anywhere from few seconds to maybe few minutes to get back into a LD. Happy dreams

      DEILD - What's it like?

Can anyone describe with detail their DEILD experiences so I know what to expect. Please include feelings, thoughts, how long it takes, and any other information you think is relevant. Thanks alot.

Only happened to me once but I'll explain it for my experience. I woke up on my back, heard a wha wha wha wha (sort of alienified) and I felt my body fly up, did the hand rc and it didn't work and then I just woke up, deild shouldn't take anymore than 10 seconds
      Spoiler for Secret to LDing:

I will take another stab at it. Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dreams are dreams that rouse you to partially awake. Since you are already very close to sleeping again one can affirm they will have a lucid dream, go back to sleep and maybe it will occur. My twist on it is that I visualize the dream that I awoke from as I fall back to sleep. I did it this morning, in fact and had a brief but intense lucid dream. I am sure there will be others with a different take on DEILD's but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Minutes. You have to be ready, when you awaken from a dream in the middle of the night, to jump back into the dream. If you get up and putter around the house you might as well try a WILD because the DEILD window is very short.

Yes, I would not move at all. Last night, in a dream, I was in a shopping mall and everyone suddenly walked very fast to the exit. I was suddenly alone and I saw an odd man from a distance staring at me. It was a disturbing image and I woke up. But, I did not move. I immediately said ' I am going to lucid dream' and began visualizing the mall and the man. Suddenly I was in a building (not a mall) and was aware that I was dreaming. I walked up to a window , looked outside, felt the joy of it all, and woke up. It was brief but well worth it!

Well, the word 'thinking' is not entirely correct... and I did not go right back into the dream. I was visualizing without too much thought. Where I ended up was not a vacant mall but a simply room with a window but that's usually how it goes. In fact, I do not think I have ever gone straight back to the same dreamscape during a DEILD.

When you're in sleep paralysis, eidetic imagery is incredibly powerful. Unlike in the waking state where it's difficult to keep even one simple image in your "mind's eye", in SP you can have bright, free flowing and self-sustaining visualizations. In this environment it is a lot easier to enter the dream, even if it doesn't make much sense to you when you're awake.

Even if you do, they last very short time, usually no longer than few seconds, up to a minute or so. So just work through it, the reward is really worth it.

I also thought that I'll be freaked out from noises. But when you already in a stage just before entering LD, I just listened to it with amusement. Was not scared at all. So don't be scared. You may not hear anything at all, as many don't. And if you do, it won't last long. And who knows, you may even enjoy it.

Its definately different for everyone, I get very few, if any HH or SP side effects, in fact I don't even notice the SP coming on and just feel my transition into the dreamworld.
