Is it really necessary to sacrifice my late nights for a good REM sleep?

Am not an early sleeper, the kind of person that would go to bed before 10pm or so. I just find myself to have more activities at night than during the day. I usually go to bed around 12-1ish at night. Does this affect my REM sleep considering i wake up late during this summer break? i get a good sleep till late mornings, around 9-10am.

No...Who told you that you would get less REM? They obviously don't know what they're talking about.

As long as you are getting regular sleep it will have no effect on R.E.M. cycles no matter the time of night (or day) you sleep.

it's the length of your sleep, not when you go to bed that matters. Hit 9-10 hours regularly and you're golden
