      My Progress

Lucid dreaming has always fascinated me since I found out it was real. I tried weakly probably a year ago and gave up. recently Ive stopped smoking weed for a while and have been having dreams every night when i usually only had 5 per year that i actually remember. So im hoping to learn this skill in the meantime.

Since Ive actually been dreaming, I set an alarm for 430 every morning and the snooze to 30 min and keep waking every 30 so i remember my dream and have a chance to think about lucidity. I have tried just visualizing different scenarios, watching my eyelid patterns etc, but always end up in a random dream anyway not knowing how i got there, ie i dont notice any transition it just happens. during the dream, there always seems to be some plot that i am playing out and am too busy focusing on the objectives to really notice that i am dreaming. I know that i have gained control of a dream at least once during elementary school, if that means anything really.

So what is the most helpful thing to do as soon as I wake up in the middle of the night? I have also been trying to tell myself i will have a lucid dream and chanting "dream" in my head but I am not sure if that helps or just awakens me more. Ive always had trouble getting to sleep unless I already have sleep debt, but in the middle of the night I can usually get back to sleep.

      Hello adhezivek!

Do you keep a dream journal? This is very helpful to recall your dreams, write down as much as you can and as detailed as possible.
When u did, try to look for dream signs. These are usually things recurring in ur dreams.
For example, i dream alot about warfare and shooting, so these are dreamsigns.
It can also be persons, objects.. whatever.

After u update your dream journal daily and got some dreamsigns, i would recommend you to do Reality Checks.
Do Reality checks when you wake up, or when u randomly think about one of your dreamsigns.
In this way your brain get's used to do Reality Checks in the scenario's of your dreamsigns, this way when u enter a dream and see a dreamsign hopefully you will do a reality check and u can become lucid.

Also i would recommend you to sign up for the introduction class.

Also Awareness is the key to become lucid, there are many tutorials about Awareness on the forums.

      Goodluck!

Rather then visualizing different scenarios try to visualize the most recent dream you can recall (which is one of the reasons I keep a journal). Just a suggestion... keep up the good work!

What he said^^^ But I visualize past dreams and visualize myself becoming lucid in that past dream. I link non LDs subconsciously every night (started when I was young consciously) and it doesn't help me get lucid unless I visualize actually becoming.

What you are doing though is great for incubation with just visualizing awesome scenarios. I do this a lot, because if I don't get lucid then who cares? I am in an awesome place.

I also wake up a ton during the night, but I do so without an alarm so as to not lose any dreams and I hate alarms. Keep up the good work and motivation!

I got an app on my iphone called dreamz. and every morning it immediately asks you to write down your dreams and this is what i will start doing once i wake up and actually intend to get up.
So now i plan that when i wake up, (usually when i get woken up by an alarm in the middle of the night like i have set i have been remembering deams) i will immediately start picturing that dream continuing in my mind but imagining that i am lucid (and think consciously about what i would do in the situation if lucid) and attempt to fall asleep thinking about this. Anything else to add?

I did not know about that app, adhezivek, but it's an interesting idea for those who seem to forget about writing down their dreams in the morning.

so I had an interesting dream, in it all these people were at my house and in my room for some reason and I told them I could lucid dream. I then was attempting to fall asleep on my bed and have lucid dreams. it was so ironic!

Haha, I used to get those dreams, too. I'd always be so mad at myself when I woke up. That does show that you are thinking a lot about LDing, though, so I bet you're really close to success! I know that back when I first started, I would have an actual lucid not long after having dreams such as this.

A few weeks ago I had a dream like that every night. I like Reece Jones way of categorizing dreams, so I can categorize those in my personal DJ as layer 0 dreams and make me see more progress.

Have you tried DEILD? If you haven't, its basically when you wake up and don't move. You have to stay completely still, though, so your alarm can't awake you with a jolt. If it works you can then DEILD into a LD. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I'm planning to try.

ACaddict. You can move if you need to, it just makes it harder to, so everyone advises against it. So if you move you can still try, but the odds go down.

I had a dream exit initiated dream last night. It wasn't lucid but it was a cool experience.

I saw sparkles all over my vision in a false awakening or something and a tiny white light in the very center of the dream and then the light got bigger and bigger and I could make out things moving inside the light and then it took over my whole vision and I was dreaming again. Pretty neat.

Well, the main thing about it is that if you do move it might be closer to just a normal WILD, if you don't move you should enter the dream in a few seconds. I have only done WILD and DEILD about 3 or 4 times though, so I am not the master on this. Note: I can't find the post that says that it is okay to move. Might be something to ask Yuppie or Dutchraptor. :/
