falling asleep with headphones on while listening to someone saying "you are dreaming" ??

could this work? since you can hear music you are listening to in your dreams surely this could work? i dont really know how it would incorporate it into the dream... maybe it will just be there in the background without anything to do with the dream.. u should hear it then it should really trigger your lucidity..

It is a good idea, but if just assume that it would be crystal clear sound of the audio that is played through the dream, there still arise one problem.
And that is also the reason to why we don't get lucid in our dreams naturally in the first place, and that is that the logical center of our brain is inactive.
So even if you hear the sound (I have actually tried it myself), you might just think while you talk to your dream character friends "Oh how stupid of me, I forgot to turn off my lucidity audio trigger", this also the usual main problem with the Dream mask you might have heard of, the practioner just end up finding a way to explain the strange event that they at the time consider as a rational conclusion, but when they wake up they realize that they were actually missing their cue.

There is however one thing that you can do to try to solve this problem, and that is to wake up during the night, go to the bathroom just to stay up for a little time and wake your mind and your logical center of the brain up a little bit. And then go back to sleep with the audio trigger set.

Try it out and see if it gives any result.

      Good luck!

Very interesting mastermind. I started waking up a lot to DJ, doing a WBTB almost every night, and this is what causes me to be lucid a lot. I think that the recorder would be very good for me, but I don't like the idea of leaning on something to help me. It makes me feel more accomplished and keeps up my confidence.

For me, the trouble is finding a comfortable way to deliver the music to my ears. I need wireless earbuds.... Then ill be straight.
      I Dreamed a Dream
In it, saw people I've never seen
      Gone places I've never been
And done things I'd do again.

Very true as well BrandonBoss, but keep in mind that people need to learn by their misstakes as well to progress.
That is to say that we are dependent on lots of things, like to travel fast we need a car or a train. And in this case for me I need a way to guarantee vivid dreams and a chance of lucidity each night in order to stay motivated. But in the end you are right complete independence is better if possible.

Right now though I am doing both a independent practise and a dependent practise. 6 hours and 30 minutes of sleep to do things completely on my own and then as a back up plan a WBTB and a lucidity "device" for atleast some vivids dreams and possibly lucidity induced partly on my own.
So a little ying and yang, spirutality vs. Science kind of approach. /

But the best lesson for lucid dreaming is our failures, which is why I don't atleast to beginners try to tell what's right or not, because that is best discovered by oneself.
And as long as practioners doesn't consider quitting and understand that they always can come for help, I will accept any induction method of their choosing.

Yeah my friend has an actual song that repeats that over and over, but he hasn't had much experience with lucids while listening to it yet though.

It is true that your hearing never really falls asleep however language is abstract and requires frontal lobe activity to understand it. So, while your tape maybe saying " You are dreaming" your brain is hearing 'blah blah blah" . But give it a try and let us know how it goes!
