      When you just give up.

Hello Dreamviews, and that one guy who accidentally stumbled upon this page.

See, I've read so much about Lucid Dreams, how to get rid of it, how to attain it through different methods and techniques and just pure facts.
I've tried to hop into a lucid dream at least 500 times (I am not joking, I've tried multiple times a night for a year, possibly longer).
I have tried so many methods. From WILD to DILD to MILD to the weirdest methods you never thought existed and failed. This constant failure is honestly pissing me off due to the fact that "apparently", everyone should be able to induce themselves in to a lucid dream, APPARENTLY.
I have literally tried over 20 methods, combined them all with WBTB, tried them without, tried them directly after waking up and NOTHING. Frankly, I'm about to board a plane straight to dreamtopia just to punch mother nature's dreamy sister in the face.

I've never kept a journal due to various reasons.
First of all, I'd consider my ability to recall dreams fantastic. I really don't need a journal when it's all stored in my head, stored there to get accessed whenever I please.
Second of all, I really don't have time to keep a journal. You will probably tell me, hey kenny, you have time during your WBTB's? NO. I really don't. I proceed with my production work when I'm up for 20-90 minutes during the WBTB.
Third of all, I don't mean to be rude, but I honestly doubt that the only reason I'm failing this much in my journey to Dreamtopia is because of a tiny little Journal. As I previously said, I already remember all of my dreams in detail.

Do you have any advice what so ever? I really need help guys. I need to start controlling my dreams for my own advantage in my everyday life.
As I said, any advice, ANY is greatly appreciated.

      Screw this failure, seriously.

      Kenny

You might get a few different opinions so here's mine. Take a break from lucid dreaming and take up meditation. Meditation is a different way to exercise your brain and achieve new experiences. It's a whole different universe of theory and reading material that you can explore. There's no "failure" in meditation, just new experiences, sometimes challenging. It doesn't have to take up a lot of time. Even 5 minutes a day can be rewarding. Meditation has many benefits and one of them is that it can improve lucid dreaming. So take a break and learn about something new to rediscover your motivation and curiosity. Then come back to lucid dreaming and try to look at it as more about enriching your life than about arbitrary definitions of success and failure.

Thank you for your help but honestly, I'm not very interested in meditation. Even though Lucid Dreaming is some sort of "meditation" I can't really be bothered to spend my time reading books and information about meditation. All I want to do is to learn how to induce myself in ONE single lucid dream so that I can confirm that its actually worth spending a lot of time on.

Also, how are binaural beats? I, personally, think that it's placebo. But I am also aware that I can be very wrong, I'm a very open minded person.

      Hey! Welcome to DV!

I think that most people would agree with Sisyphus about taking a break. I am not a fan of this method, but it works for a lot of people. My big thing about taking breaks is to make sure you keep your DJ up, if your recall goes down it takes a while to build it back up.

Personally I think that you are probably needing more of a one on one help. I would check out the Dream Views Academy for some classes. There is a beginner course, but if you have done research for a year I would recommend this class:
      General Lucid Dreaming (Matte87)

Matte can give you some good advice if you let him.

I would recommend more consistency with techniques, 20 different techs in a year is a lot, this means that you spend an average of 18 days on a technique and move on. It took me about 45 days of one tech to get my first induced lucid. Techniques isn't everything though, this thread is about what it really takes to LD, and there are some good pieces of advice there. Note that "technique" is not listed by anyone. CosmicIron might protest, but most would agree that technique is secondary to these:

Meditation doesn't take books. All you really need to do is just sit there for about 5 minutes. either think about just one thing, think of nothing, or visualize. There is a class here about that too, and it would take less time than reading books.
      Dream Yoga (Sivason)

I personally am not a fan of binaural beats and haven't tried them too much, so I can't give you an answer on that.

If you have any questions feel free to ask here or PM me.

Hey! I didn't comment about the DJ. I was going to ask you what constitutes amazing recall? I haven't met anyone that has recall as high as mine and doesn't LD. (Not bragging. There are plenty with better recall than me)

I know that you REALLY don't want to keep a physical DJ, but at least try to. Physically writing down your dreams does heaps more than just storing your dreams in your head your whole life. I'm not saying its the thing holding you back, but it can't hurt to try. Even if you can't write down in the morning, find another time to write them when you have some free time. I personally haven't gotten a lucid yet, but I've been really close and I probably wouldn't have if it weren't for me reminding my mind that dreams are important to me.

Well, two other things I'd recommend:

      - If you haven't yet read "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge, you should read that. 99% of what we know about lucid dreaming is based on his work and his book provides the most clear and informed information about lucid dreaming.

      - Participate in a community like here on DV. Just read and post daily or semi-daily. That can support your practice and motivations on an everyday basis. Adding a social aspect to your practice can enrich it greatly.

      Learn how to hypnotise yourself.
Hypnotise yourself every time you go to sleep. Hypnotise yourself to have lucid dreams every night.

It works better than any method here combined.

      This.

@ OP, And pretty much any method you practice is just setting a conditioned response towards having an expected reaction or phenomena occur. And also, if you add feedback to your hypnosis sessions as well (if OP chooses to do so), it augments setting practical suggestions towards your subconscious to fulfill them. And with time and practice, understanding how your subconscious works during hypnosis (which is to imply present tense in mantras and solidifying them with willpower and visualization) is going to serve you well in the long run.

Thanks alot guys! Sorry for the late response, I've been a little busy lately.

Could you link any good hypnosis methods/basics that I should know about? If this is true, I cannot thank you enough.

Check out "A Practical Guide to Self-Hypnosis " by Melvin Powers (pdf version) . It's just one of many books on hypnosis overall, and I've been using it for weeks now, and even though I don't have as much time to focus on it, it definitely works. It works for me because it makes me see that it's about getting into a suggestible state that gets results.

Just a simple search engine search and you're on your way to knowing the basics and more. It's concise in my opinion, and shows the importance of visualization and feedback responses to your hypnotic statements that help you succeed in endeavors that involve mental perseverance (lucid dreamings, studying more, etc.)

I can't link it, since I'm worried I would probably be violating rules (even if it is free really). I think it's worth the read, and it can clear a lot of misconceptions on hypnosis as well.

      Good luck!

One big thing to help is finding a technique that you can enjoy doing. Most every technique will work for you given time and effort. Remember to keep logs of what works better for you and small changes that might make it easier overall.

So if hypsosis sounds fun and interesting then go for it!

      Good luck.
