      Background Noise

Ive never had to question the limits on noise while attempting lucids but while working away for a year ive now moved into a shared house with 3 other people... i have my own room but there is constant noise around me being 3 other males noise tends to run through from early morning to very late at night so at any point attempting a WILD there is always noise around me

Noises around me have always been non existant/ very quiet when going for a WILD but now its pretty loud most of the time.

Ive read some people actually listen to music ect during WILD attempts but for me its always been about it being silent so how much can background noise effect your attemps because being surrounded by constant banging and talking has been putting me off the last couple attempts ive had and the only close efforts ive been able to have is staying awake untill 1-2am when everyone else is in bed and attempting a WILD even though i know my REM cycle wont be ready... tried blanketing the noise and covering my ears but this seems like an extra distraction for some reason

Have you tried to WILD early in the morning? Best time is after at least 4.5 hours of sleep, anyway.

yeah i used to but since moving to this house theres always someone banging around early morning and through day, i work at 6am everyday now too so the only option i really had was to stay awake untill everyone else is asleep which is generally about 1-2am leaving me about 4 hours untill i start work so i dont really want to wake myself up either im a little stuck at the min i just cant seem to blank out background noise because im so used to silence

I don't know what time you go to sleep and what time you have to get up. But I would definitelly not wait for everybody to fall asleep at 2am. WILDing before any sleep is futile. You may get a WILD or two, but it will be more of an accidental WILD, than a rule. Unless you are a dream yogi.

So I would go to bed as early as possible and get up for WBTB after everyone else has fallen asleep, and before they get up in the morning. Good luck with that. I don't envy you. Noise from inconsiderate people can really ruin my mood.

I use a box-fan set on medium. It not only helps me sleep by covering alot of random noises, but the sound often transitions into an odd buzzing sound which accompanies the vibrations during my WILD stages.

Even if I wasn't trying to LD, this fan is responsible for battling most of my insomnia.

Thanks Ophelia if the problems persist i think ill give that a go see if it has same affect with me
i caught a lucky break this morning when i woke up it was raining so gained an extra hour n half in bed before work... which allowed me to WBTB , the lucid itsself was very short but it was a nice feeling to actually have 1 its been my first since moving in this house
