I personally think so, depending on the practice.
There are many forms of mindfulness, but if you focus on concentration (one-pointedness) and combine this with a strong confidence in your mental abilities, you will be able to control a great deal, not only in dreams, but your waking life, and your physical body (within reason). There is no doubt that this practice will help with every lucid dreaming technique, but as far as gaining lucidity from dream consciousness is concerned, there is debate.
I suggest trying DEILD if you start getting fed up; or WILD if you are a more confident person. I like the idea of having direct control myself, and if you follow Sivason's advice, this will become easy with time. Practice makes perfect, and the journey is what matters.
