Dream Journal - How long do I need it ?

I've had many ups and downs trying to attain lucidity and tried mainly DEILD and WBTB. I recently realized I was a lot better when I had a dream journal and lucidity happened spontaneously in the middle of a dream (DILD). Maybe all I need is a dream journal and no special method at all. I've been wonderind if people here keep dream journals forever ?

Everybody is different, you may need one forever, you may gain your recall then never use one again, you may boost your recall but not use a Dream Journal, you may start summarising your dreams to only tags.

It's really all about experimentation to find what's right for you.

Many of the practices we do all serve their own purpose.

Dream journal - makes us happy about our dreams, let's our mind know, that we like dreams, remembering them, and we want more of them, helps with recall

We also need other practices, such as RCs, mantras, awareness... to set our intent, get better awareness...

So they all should be practiced together. If after some time of getting consistent lucids you will notice that even after stopping to practice something you still get your lucids, then by all means, you can make that practice less frequent or drop it all together. But I have not heard form many people who would be doing this.

Especially dream journaling, since many of us find pleasure in reading old entries and finding patterns, and we don't think of it as a chore.

All I can say, is that whenever I don't write in my dream journal regularly, my LD count goes down.
To me there is no reason not to write in your dream journal. It helps with recall and a whole bunch of other things related to attaining lucidity (like discovering dream signs etc). So I say you definitely should keep writing in your DJ.

I write down only interesting LD's to DJ, mostly because i want to share them.

I'd say forever, not meaning you need to write dreams down forever but the dream journals usefulness never goes away. I stopped writing down my dreams and went from remembering vividly 3-5 dreams a night to only bits and pieces of 1 dream. I am slowly bringing my recall back up but then again some people may not need it as long as you think real hard about your dreams in the morning.

With me, my lucid dreaming pretty much relies on dream journalling. Some people are different of course as RDM said. It helps me recognize my dream, I can sort of tell myself to watch of out for certain things when I read true my dreams.

I think you do need to keep working on your dream recall forever, especially if you're spending a long time in the dream world and becoming lucid a lot.

I go through stages, sometimes to test things, but when you're dream recall is stronger it's always better.

You don't need to do it non-stop, but constant top-ups are important.
