Dream Journal, how long can you remember your dreams?

Yes, another tread, but I have another topic =)

I really want to get back to writing down my dreams and increacing my dream recall, but I am very pressed for time in the morning, and I can't write quickly enough. I love the tape recorder idea, but I can't make noise in the mornig because my parents are very light sleepers. I'm trying to think of something else, but I'm afraid I'll forget my dreams.

When do you write in your Dream Journal/record your dreams?
How long are you able to remember your dreams without writing them down or recording them?

      Here's my plan:
Think about my dreams as I'm taking a shower and make breakfast (first things I do in the morning). Maybe write them down as I eat breakfast? But I usually eat quickly and I like to read the paper...
What I really want to do is record them in a tape recorder while I drive to school (about 15-20 minutes), but I'm afraid I'll forget them by then. I leave my house about 40 minutes after waking up.

Or should I just start waking up half an hour earlier? ='( But I love to sleep. I'm a teenager, lol!

      Thoughts? Advice?

      <3 Thank you!

I say wake up earlier. It will help your Dj alot Just write down the key words and then rush out. The key words will help you recall the whole dream later.

Well, you can always wake up 3 mins earlier and write the important parts, then finish while on the bus, that way, even if you forget, the important part will be there and help you to remember.
      And for the other questions:
1.- After I got in the computer, which is at around 4-7pm, but tend to forget to write on my journal so it may take longer <.<
2.- Boring dreams, around 12 hours, Regular, around 1 or 2 days, Cool ones, some years, always had good recall.

Anyway, different things work for different people, so good luck on finding your way.

Dream Recall is best right after you wake up, but as you focus on remembering dreams you don't necessarily have to keep a detailed dream journal. (Don't get me wrong, if you can discipline yourself to keep one you're giving yourself a great tool to increase dream recognition).

All your really trying to do if not remember your dreams is get your mind attuned to the differances between the waking world and the dream world, so set yourself a small regimine of RC's, and if you don't have time or energy to keep a dream journal, then write some key words down like someone above mentioned, or just keep the dream in your thoughts during the day. Over time you increase your ability to recognize dreams just because your so used to checking in real life... At least that is what works for me. (I'm too lazy to keep a dream journal, something that is a bit of a bane for my progression)- So I just ask myself constantly, "Am I dreaming right now?" And check a clock or a book or something close by to confirm.

Tho honestly keeping dream journals is awesome, it helps you pinpoint de-javu instances too.

Either I write them down on a regular notebook, or I write them down on my hand throughout the day.

Then I look at my hand, and notebook. I post them here around 4 PM.

I can remember dreams until 4 without notes, but I forget some of the details.
      Bollocks.

The best time to write in your journal is no doubt right after you wake up.
I usually right one down as soon as i wake up, and then i remember a couple as i am taking a shower. Something about the warm water really gets me remembering; you should give it a try.
Earlier today i remembered a dream from two nights ago, it was strange because i did not recall any dreams from that night.

Wow, you guys are good. I can only remember my dreams for the first few minutes after I wake up. At least it's an improvement over my previous record of forgeting my dreams before I can turn off my alarm. Then again, I haven't been trying for very long and I still have finals to worry about.

Yea, I've been working on it for a while... If you write them down, eventually you'll get better. It takes time though.

the proccess of saying your dreams out loud or writting them down. makes the dreams go from your imagination to reality.
and our brain is programed to forget imagination (hence we forget dreams) and remember reality.
i record all my dreams ona tape recorder the moment i wake up, but to be honest i never really need to listen to the tape recorder to remember them, the fact that i said them out loud to record them makes me remember them.

its the same as when you school teachers make you write stuff down, the proccess of writting it down helps us remember it a lot.

it may be wierd, but when you wake up, talk about the dream, very quietly so as not to wake anyone up. just run it through in your head, saying it under your breath

another solution is to drink a lot of water before you go to bed- this will cause you to wake up earlier of your own accord- no alarm- thus you will have ample time to lye in bed remembering them and writing em down before going to the loo.

Good idea, but I think Ill just set my alarm earlier, because I'm used to waking up with it every day anyway
And I really can't stand that "gotta go" feeling... lol
