Need some help with MILD technique...am I doing it right??

Ok so I'm not a TOTAL beginner but lucid dreaming doesn't always come naturally to me. I've never really had a true, PROPER lucid dream and it's a bit frustrating.

Anyway, I tried MILD the other day because I thought it sounded easier than WILD. I got in a comfy position and relaxed. Every time I breathed out I repeated (in my head) "I am dreaming now".
After a while I felt a little numb and felt like I was floating. I am struggling to see hypnogogia but I had flashes of light in my eyes. It felt just like the early stages of going into a lucid dream but I woke up and lost it. When I finally got to sleep an hour later, I BARELY EVEN HAD ANY DREAMS!
In the morning I woke myself up at half 5, stayed awake for 20 minutes then tried MILD again but STILL had no real dreams, let alone lucid ones.

I need help! Help me! I really want to lucid dream and am not going to give up, but need a bit of a hand...

Hi there, you may already know that you can practice mild when you normally go to bed or during a wbtb. Using a mantra or combining it with visualization of a previous dream can sink in your subcon or it can help you set your intent to have a lucid dream. The intent to have a lucid dream is very important with any technique. It is not just wishing to have an ld, it is an expectation of success that you will have one. So, for it to work best, set this intention and then use the mantra to remind yourself that you will have a lucid dream.

I am not sure how long it will take to have an ld with this technique, it may be the very same night, or it may take a while. You usually will have an ld in the last couple of REM periods (say after 5 hours of sleep). We don't go for having a lucid dream when we first go to bed because the body needs to have some rest. You can still set your intent with mild to have an ld and repeat it when you wake up later. For better results, I would also suggest some general DILD and awarness techniques, such as reality checks during the day, questioning and examining the surroundings, etc. More info can be found here.
