Including more self-awareness in reality checks?

      Hi,

I know that self-awareness and memory are essential for realizing you’re dreaming, so I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how you could include an effective spark of self-awareness in your reality checks.

I was thinking you could ask some questions like: Who am I? What day is it? What was I doing earlier? Etc.

Would these questions really be enough to encompass all of your self-awareness, so that you can become lucid? I mean, are there other questions you could ask yourself, or anything else you could do to bring about a greater sense of your waking-life self in a dream?

      Thanks for your suggestions.

Well for self awareness I just touch my face and look around lol. Words don't really help for me.

That's a really good reality check! I myself also test my memory and ask myself what I'm doing at the current moment. It's great because you could be remembering what you just in a dream, and realise, "Hey, I just went to bed," and boom, lucid.

I usually make RC's by remembering how I got there, what I was doing earlier. The day thing doesn't work that much... also you could try to look at what you're wearing and recall the moment you put those clothes on.

      Great idea!

Yes it think it’s good to test your memory as much as possible when doing a reality check. I once did a memory reality check (in a dream) of trying to remember what I did earlier in the day, but I was provided with a memory from something that happened earlier in the dream, and therefore thought it was reality! So yes, I’d imagine that applying your memory to specific things would also help.
