Um, when you wake up naturally at night are the best times when your REM cycles have just ended/will start a new so use that lol
I personally have slept throug several 5+ quakes and a few 6+ ones, so you aren't alone.
So yeah, I would say. Stop trying to mess up your sleep cycle, if you wake up naturally during the night then use those times as you can't get a better chance than those for a WBTB. Why do you say/think the optimum time is reached through alarms? Alarms are nothing more than a way to try and catch the cycles ending/starting so if you don't need them thats much better.
