      Using a timer

Is there any clever way to use a cell phone timer or kitchen timer to wake up in intervals to go back to sleep right into dreams?

Yes. It's kind of the same premise as WBTB, in that it all has to do with sleep cycles. Optimally, you want to have a timer with a relatively short auto-off duration. I would recommend waking up after about 4-5 hours before attempting this, as your first few sleep cycles don't have as much REM sleep for dreams. Then set it for 90 minutes or however long your sleep cycle is. When it goes off, do not move, but instead keep your eyes closed, relax, and imagine the dream scene you just left. You should be able to decently DEILD with that.

What spellbee said. If you have an iPhone, you can use the calendar alert. Also, there is an OK app called RealityCheck. It's a little buggy, but works well enough for random DEILDing during the night. Good luck.

I'll try it tonight. Does this work during the first chunk of sleep too and not just after 4-6 hours?

NREM barrier is too big, so good chance you'll just wake yourself up during NREM sleep. Just wait a few hours (at least 4-5).

There are a bunch of free IPhone and Andriod apps that I've had a lot of success with, Spellbee defined the technique perfectly.
