That tenchique is amazing and its called SSILD. I notice that you visulaize a dream scene whilst falling asleep and you use your senses of sight, touch and smell. Well SSILS is kinda like a non visual way of doing this and i highly recommend you google "cosmic.iron ssild"
So each day i do quality reality checks much like you, i then do seated meditation twice a day and at night i wbtb after 3 hours and perform SSILD and then again when i wake naturally a few hours after that. If i happen to notice myself awake i will try to deild.
So take a look at ssild, it may well work wonders for you, hope this helps
