      Quick Beginner Questions

Hey, I just started trying to lucid dream 2 weeks ago. I've had 3 lucids. The first two were extremely short and blurry, however the last one was much more vivid.

      My Latest LD:

I was standing in my driveway with one of my friends. I realized I was dreaming. I looked down at my hands, and what was weird is they looked almost exactly as I remember them looking like in real life. It was really vivid.

      Heres my problem every time:

Within 5 seconds of realizing I'm lucid, I immediately look at my hands, rub them together, and try to make things more vivid. However, I always wake up very quickly because I imagine myself laying in bed... and I can't seem to get my mind off of it.

Or maybe I'm too exited? I always try to calm down quickly and try to rub my hands together to make everything more vivid, but I'll always wake up and its frustrating.

Start walking, start looking around. Don't stay in one place. Go explore.

As funny as this might sound, if the dream starts fading, wave one of your hands in front of your face like john cena, even if you can't see it, try to. Eventually the dream will come back by forming around the sensation of your hand. Actually i think ill make a thread including that technique, since iv never told anybody about it.

Hi, Doolittle. The problem of thinking of your body will go away in time, especially after you've had a number of lucid dreams. Starting out, it's normal for LDs to be a bit short. Also

I always try to calm down quickly and try to rub my hands together to make everything more vivid, but I'll always wake up and its frustrating.
Since this is only week two, I wouldn't stress too much about what is currently happening. You're having lucid dreams, and at a pretty decent frequency for your first two weeks. After you've had a number, the excitement will go away and it will be easier to stabilize and maintain the dream. Classic stabilization techniques are anything that engages you more deeply with the dream environment: rubbing hands, feeling the textures of things (and no, I don't mean a hot DC's body because that will just excite you more), and spinning around. All of these have been tested numerously by members of the forum, as well as in dream studies.

As to the stabilization method of moving your hand in front of your face: probably works for DreamBrandt, but I would suggest sticking to something standard that works for everyone.

I would also suggest joining the DILD class: DILD. FryingMan and fogelbise are great teachers. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. Counting my fingers seems to be a bad reality check for me, because in my dreams whenever I look at my hands, my body remembers all the times I looked at my hands for a RC, and uses that image, which is the exact image of my hand, as I know it so well.

Another question I had, was how vivid can lucid dreams be? The first two felt like I was playing a video game in my head, but my most recent felt more vivid. Can a dream ever feel close to real life? I know it will never be the same, but is it more than just a visual playground?

Actually DooLittle, I would describe the few great lucid dreams I've had as more than life like. It can easily be 100% life like and your senses are enhanced so that's why I say more than life like. It's crazy.
