Well, a WILD is at it's core, waking up to induce a lucid dream. However, if you have already been awake for 12hrs you can't WILD. I am saying you go straight from an awake state into a lucid dream by passing your natural sleep cycle and go right into a REM. I imagine with enough self control you could be able to do it. People can lower their body temperature and heart beat, so why not initiate a REM from the get go.

I had one last night straight after falling asleep funnily enough, I didn't try for it as I wait until I've had a few hours sleep before I MILD/WILD these days but a few years ago I used to try to WILD when first going to bed and got them quite often.
I also found that trying to WILD when first going to bed would give me a much higher chance of a DILD latter on in the night even if the WILD failed, so it's worth trying.
The main reason I don't try first thing after going to bed now is just the length of them really, I found they only last a minute or so if that, so pretty short but again, if you just wanna try and get Lucid as much as possible then give it a go, they might last longer for you.
Ok cool, so it is possible. I imagined they would be short, but as a novice my LD don't last but a minute so I am trying to get all the practice I can get.

I would go to sleep after a full day's activity, and sense the usual hypnagogic images are more vivid and 'real' then usual. Next thing I know, I'd be in a dream to my still-very-conscious surprise. But, at least for me, it's not something I can replicate. It just happens when my body/mind is in exactly the right state, I guess. Usually, dream images at the onset of sleep are just too shallow and anything like excitement or surprise would just bring me back from falling asleep to being awake.
I find it a very intriguing topic in any case.

Ok cool that is reassuring. Thanks!
