      A Few Tips

Recently, i stopped doing "techniques" and just changed my attitude and mindset a little bit and in 2 days i almost had 3 lucid dreams... I was on a dry spell before!
I'll leave 6 tips in here, things that i should have done a long time ago..

Ⅰ Look forward to your dreams, lucid or not

For so long i have looked at non-lucids as mere obstacles in my way but the moment i started looking forward to them, they became much more exciting. Like them for what they are!
I'll add that my dreams have contained way more action ever since i looked forward to them as fun experiences..

Ⅱ Don't stress yourself if you don't get lucid dreams

For a long time, i have been getting frustrated when i don't get lucid dreams.. I was unintentionally stressing myself over not having lucid dreams.. And stress kills lucidity.
This might also be the reason why some people get lucid dreams when they stop trying to get them.

      Ⅲ Meditate
It increases self-awareness and you can use it for mindfulness amongst other benefits.. Improving your chances to lucid dream. You don't have to meditate for 10 hours , even 5 minutes are enough.

      Ⅳ Reality Check Properly

Those "almost 3 lucid dreams" were all wasted because i didn't RC properly. RCing properly means that you actually RC and think, not just do it automatically with no thought!
I recommend to use 2 reality checking methods instead of only 1. For me, this makes sure that i become lucid even if the first RC fails on me.

      Ⅴ Understand Dream Stabilization

The main goal of stabilization techniques is to engage your senses with the dream and that's to place your attention on your dreams. If you stop placing attention on the dream, you might wake up.
Keep calm, and place your attention on the dream (by engaging your senses). Common techniques are: Spinning, touching the ground or walls, rubbing hands.. ect..

      Ⅵ Improve Dream Memory

When you become lucid, try to remember things.. Your full name, what day it is, what you did yesterday, ect.. This activates most of your waking-memory back.
I say this because memory is majorly fogged in dreams, and that's also why sometimes despite being lucid, i go through doors instead of going through walls.
This is also potentially what allows you to have proper dream control, based on my past experiences...

      Hey there,

      Excellent tips!

In my opinion, number 1 is so important its worth mentioning twice.

Lucid dreaming is a form of dreaming, so learning to simply dream is a must.

Disregarding your dreams, or worse, seeing them as failures for not being lucid, is sort of like rejecting walking because you're trying to learn to run. You're only going to fall flat on your face if you do ... or, to end the analogy and go back to dream terms, create dry spells. Work constructively with your dreams. The more attention you pay them and the more constructively you work with them, the easier the road to awareness during dreams will become.

Its possible to get some quick and erratic successes now and then, but if you want to pave the road to frequent and consistent awareness in dreams, you have to get familiar with your entire dreamscape, not just the lucid dreams. And on that path, every remembered dream helps you to reach that goal .

      Just my 2 cents,

Look forward to your dreams, lucid or not
I originally read this tip from Redrivertears, who stated it in detail in one of his threads a few weeks ago. I'll proceed by saying more about it here, you could say "more of the same"..

As a result of looking forward to my non-lucid-dreams, they started getting exciting. Why am i so excited suddenly then?
The reason is that for YEARS, my dreams consisted of walking around somewhere or talking to someone about something boring. Such lame experiences turned into action-packed, strange and interesting experiences only by changing my mindset. I'm talking about extremely weird things, a fight against someone else, quickly grabbing the hands of someone aiming at me with a gun and shoving their hand away, going through a slightly creepy but thrilling experience. It was last night, that i experienced one of the weirdest dreams i have ever seen! And i'm sure, after around 4 days of holding onto this mindset, that this is no coincidence.

I finally also found the reason for the dry spells that i was caught up in.
I placed too much attention on the fact that i wanted lucid dreams that i forgot that i just had to focus on my normal dreams and be aware during them.

Furthermore, there is one more thing that redrivertears pointed out about this mindset..
Increasing awareness about something means paying attention to it. What happens when you stop paying attention to your "Non-lucid dreams", and label them as failures? When you don't care?
Yes, you lose quite a lot of potential awareness on your dreams. Why doesn't everyone lack lucidity then, even when they don't normally see their dreams as special things?
Simple enough, they probably do induction techniques, which in one form or another, places their attention on the dreams.

Last but not least, this is most effective when combined with normal awareness techniques such as SSILD or the others to get a much higher chance of actual awareness.

Also, techniques are vehicles to lucidity. You should use techniques as tools, but never forget that you have to rely on yourself too.. if you use a tech for awareness, don't forget to also try to be aware yourself.

You either go to your destination with your car, or send it there by itself and just walk to it.

This concludes what i wanted to add. Maybe i'm just saying the same things all over again, but that doesn't matter so much now.

#6 and #1 are very enlightening to me. I already meditate though and I had given up on reality checks. I see now that the reason for my failure was my attitude, if I did not have a lucid, I slick though it was a failure. Lucid was the end all be all for me.
