Hello Mitchellkid. Keeping a DJ to maintain your ability to recall dreams and write down your lucids and RCing are all that you really need in order to learn how to lucid dream, but it is kind of a bare-bones approach. It will work fine though; for my first year or so of lucid dreaming; I only utilized a dream journal and basic RCs. |

I agree with JadeGreen, those two are definitely the place to focus for now. I would just add that you should become obsessed with the idea. Get your brain convinced that this is important. Read about it, talk about it, and repeat phrases in your mind over and over. The phrases should be simple and some what like this, "I am going to be aware that I am dreaming." |

Those two are the most important things to do. I somewhat disagree with the idea that you need to get obsesed with it, because sometimes thinking and worrying too much about it will lead to no lucid dreams at all. Trust me on this, take it easy, just never stop doing Rcs and writting on your dream journal. Also make sure you read about lucid dreaming every night before going to sleep. Good luck! |

Just to elaborate on this a bit, I think it's good to be highly excited and motivated and think about it a lot, but not to the point where it causes stress, since that can make things worse than not thinking about LDing at all. It's sort of like when you can't go to sleep and then you become angry and anxious about it, making it even harder to get to sleep. Getting upset or anxious about LDing is probably a sign that it's time to take a break for a while. |

In a sense, I think, it isn't about obsession at all, but about making lucidity a major, real, part of your waking life. |
