Thread: FAILED reality check

Hey everyone hope all is good, i missed becoming lucid last night thru a FAILED finger count i had 5 fingers both hands arrrgh!!
Does anyone know why it failed? i meen do they fail somtimes?
has anyone else experienced this, it might be time to check my almost perfect RC

I don't think that would be a very reliable reality check, because sometimes dreams are pretty stable. It would be far more affective to try to poke your finger through your hand, or pinch your nose and try to breathe through it.

It's always possible that you happen to have 5 fingers on both hands in a dream. Try it multiple times (Check for details on your hands too) or pinch your nose and try to breathe through it as weelilhazel said (which works very well for me).

My favourite one has to be the nose RC but I do use a few others. U should use multiple ones rather than just one cuz then if one fails (like i hear what happened to u) u'll always have another one to rely on. So yeah, thats my advice.

Some RCs are very unreliable, while others are good a majority of the time. It varies person by person. In general, though, it seems the nose RC is pretty much failproof.

The reasons for failed reality checks are several. You may be new to reality checks in general, and thus not looking closely enough. You may be new to the "finger/hands" reality check, and thus not looking closely enough.

Or you might just've had an off night, that happens.

I recommend you stick to more concrete reality checks, in favor of or supplementary to the "finger/hands" check. I've never heard of a story where the "nose plug" failed, for example.

Only once has it failed me. But only because I was breathing through my mouth!

I don't think i have ever had a failed finger count reality check and it is my most used reality check, it works every time. I have had alot of other failed reality checks though because it would become so routine i would be performing one almost sub-consciously, not taking the reality check seriously, if you do that it will pass through to your dreams.
