      Sleeping positions.

Hey guys, just wondering, are certain sleeping positions recommended over others for WILD techniques ?

I would expect the soldier (and maybe free faller) position to be the best because it is easiest to perceive the falling or floating sensations indicative of the vibrations, SP and HI in this position, but I find it next to impossible to fall sleep in the soldier position. I usually sleep in the Foetus position.

I have been trying WILD in the soldier position for 5 days now and each day, the best I could manage was getting my body to feel a little sluggish and numb. I have never reached SP or felt any vibrations, seen HI ... nothing. I need some help here.

It'd be great if someone could come up with a good step-by-step guideline on the various stages, processes and experiences involved in a successful WILD explaining what you should be doing, feeling and thinking about at each stage.

      Thanks !

      Haha its frustrating eh?

I have a feeling Im just missing one simple key component of this process though. I need to find out what that is. I know what it is like to be lucid dreaming I've had plently of DILDs so I know what kind of feeling and imagery to look for towards the end of the WILD experience... but I would like to try to now try and experiment with WILD... I just cant do it on my own.

from what I've read...a few people find it hard to sleep on their backs. BUT, i've also read a few WILDers who sleep on their sides, WILD on their backs.

From what I understand, if you shorten your wbtb, then you would have less trouble getting to sleep in an abnormal position (on your back)

Wow, where'd you get that graphic from? "Starfish" feels so natural to me that I can't imagine other people not drifting into the position themselves, but if the numbers are really that low, then... that surprises me.

Haha Spamtek, apparently people who sleep in the starfish position make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don't like to be the centre of attention.

I didnt make up that stuff ! Someone else did ! Check it out... theres more for the other sleeping positions too:

Soldier and starfish have given me my most psychedelic LDs (usually WILDs). I'm much more likely to levitate or fall in those positions, like you said.

However, they often seem very uncomfortable to me because the back of my head is pressed against my pillow, which makes it harder for my blood to flow through my head. I usually start to feel my head pumping or beating after a few minutes in one of those positions; it's really scary. Does anyone else have that problem?

yeah ! I get that a lot too ! omg I never realized it was because of the pillow pressing against my head.... I can usually feel my heart beating all over my body when this happens though, more strongly in my head, but still all over my body. How do you stop that from happening ?

Wow, the way I sleep isnt even listed I sleep in a combination of fetus and yearner, one leg straight, the other bent.

I have just started trying WILDs a few nights ago, and even though I sleep the way I described, I find it easier to relax and concentrate if I lay in the soldier position. I think because I am not used to sleeping that way, it is easier for me to keep my mind awake.

I'd advise you to just relax. I'm pretty sure this has to do with stress, because when this happens, my neck is usually tense and hard, which doesn't allow my head to rest properly.

Otherwise, there was a time when I had to use an inflatable pillow like this one:

It did help with the pumping thing, but I found it uncomfortable in other ways.

Someone told me that taking aspirin before going to bed could help with this problems because of its blood thinning effect, but I've never tried it and I've never asked a professional about it.

Does anyone here think that it's really best to sleep how you normally sleep? I think I get to sleep faster in foetus and slower in soldier. However, I haven't had much luck with WILDs, so I might be wrong!
Also, I sleep in foetus and still get pounding. Perhaps I should use a foam pillow? The one I have now sinks all the way down to my bed when I lie on it! So maybe a harder pillow=better WILDing?

I would expect a softer and bigger pillow to reduce the pulsating sensation in your head. The pillow would sink lower, but it would also take the shape of your head better reducing pressure points on your head ... it would basically distribute the weight of your head more evenly and so I would expect it to reduce the pulsating sensation too.

Hmm... silly article, good way of classifying sleeping positions I suppose. I sleep in the "foetus" or "yearner" (when I'm missing my girlfriend...), so I find it difficult to WILD - I've only ever had numbness and vibrations.
I used to be able to sleep on my back... would anyone recommend trying to practice this again?

Ok, I usually sleep on my stomach, but if I am really tired, I can sleep on my back.

The only WILD that I have accidentally done resulted in my first LD and I was trying to do it while in the free-faller position. I now try to WILD on my back, with not much of any results. I guess I should start trying to WILD on my staomach again.

What about that study from the Lucidity Institute that proposed you should sleep on your right side like Tebetan dream yoga teaches? I know they're redoing it right now.
