I stayed up a teeny bit too long, which made it hard for me to go to sleep

I've got school tomorrow, but I'll do it!!

It'll be 5 minutes tonight I'll stay up for, so I'm still sleepy
The relaxtion part is also hard, but I guess practise makes perfect

      EDIT:

Or do I have to be fully awake?:S

      Thats right.

With practice perhaps you will go on to master the technique and lucid dream at will.

So I should still be sleepy, not awake?

I would say you have to stay up at least 10 minutes otherwise your mind will still be foggy.

Like other WILD methods, you should be awake enough that you are fully aware you are awake and not dreaming, and also aware of your surrondings, but not so much so that falling asleep becomes difficult.

Isn't that relatively easy to achieve when you wake up anyway?

I know what you mean, I'll try again!!

I think that's a bit too long for me, because I always have trouble getting back to sleep...

5 minutes is good I think

Yes it is a fine line. You have to find the amount of time that suits you best.

Not necessarily. Because of FA's, and general grogginess, you will really have to be sure that you are awake. (Take note of your surrondings, and do many reality checks)

You'll have to experiment to find what suits you.

      Hope that helps.

      It's up to you.

I would suggest you stay up until you feel your mind has woken up and the fogginess has worn off which could be after 5 minutes depending on what you do n that time, if you just lay down on the couch it will take longer than if you were constantly observing your surroundings and doing reality checks or something that involves activity of the mind.

Is it necessary to go downstairs?

I'm not sure. I go and have a walk around my house because it helps wake me up but i'm not sure it is necessary.

      It certainly helps.
