Threating Induced Lucid Dream... Do you think that this would work??? The main idea is that you threaten to inflict pain upon yourself if you don't have a lucid dream... The downside to this would be that you have to inflict pain if you don't have a lucid dream but over time I think that this technique might work...

I think you'd associate "remembering if a dream is lucid or not" first, meaning recall would drop significantly. Or, perhaps your mind will connect thoughts of lucid dreaming with pain, and your mind won't let you have one. Not to mention the stress this would put on dreaming itself, even if these associations do not develop!

Can't you think of something milder? Like, if you lucid dream, you may have a cookie?

No, I think this will work...

I think that punishing the mind is more effective than rewarding... The mind can get used to rewards but not to punishment...

Actually in my psychology class our teacher said that most psychologist believe that reward is more effective. In fact most of them think that punishment is detrimental and prefer to only reward good behavior and ignore bad behavior.

Really??? Wow... I'd think that punishment would be more effective... Anyway, you can't reward unless you have a lucid dream...

No, but you can't punish yourself unless you don't.

So you better get that Lucid Dream, or you wont get the cookie!
I'm planning to celebrate my own 1st Lucid.

If you get into it, every time you think of lucid dreaming, it will go, "Oh, that's the thing that if I do it, I will get cookies!"

With punishment I think it will go "Oh no, not that, if I fail I will be punished!"

So reward > punishment, as above said.

why hasn't electric shock therapy taken off? Punishment is too discouraging.

The more you fail at your task the more discouraged you become. The more discouraged you become the more pressure you put on yourself to succeed. The more you fail with a great amount of pressure, the more you get discouraged.

If you keep a positive attitude and KNOW that the lucid dream will come, eventually it will. In the books I have from Laberge he says on several occasions not to put to much pressure on yourself. Punishment is pressure. In my opinion it is a bad idea.

yes that is true, you can't reward unless you have a lucid dream. No pressure right. "If I fail I don't get angry at myself; but if I succeed I get an awesome reward"

If I see my professor today I will ask him to go over the concept again so I can better explain.

Yeah, threatening yourself into an LD is a really bad idea. I read somewhere, however, back in my research days of 2003/04, that some guy (or, I think, girl) fasted until he had one. Mad.

Also, I wouldn't trust a technique that is misspelt.
