If you want my advice, no, don't hurt yourself like that! When I first started attempting WILD, I would lie awake for an hour, give up, and not fall back asleep for either another hour, or even for the rest of the morning. Talk about frustrating! I'd take care of your existing sleep problems first. Summer is the perfect chance to make your sleep schedule balanced and consistent, which should help your body naturally adjust to sleep. I'm assuming you are already avoiding the use of stimulants and exercise before bed!

As for DILDs, how long have you been trying? For me, it took a couple weeks before the reality checks gave me my first lucid dream. Don't give up! And besides, even when you do manage a WILD, what if you think you are actually awake? Reality checks help in WILDs, too (so that you can distinguish a false awakening from a real one).

      Good luck!

i have insomnia, and i see WILDing as a cheat to fall asleep. because its not my body that keeps me up, its my mind. just usually when i think and shit(thinkin is what keeps me up. thats what the doctor said, in easy to understand terms), i used to also move everyonce and a while. if i just sit still and attempt a WILD, my body falls asleep and my mind can stay awake like it wants to do, but ill still be asleep. just dreaming. =] but ur sleep problems might be different than mine. thats just how it was for me.
