Subliminal messages are messages that supposedly your conscious mind is unable to hear but which can be heard by your subconscious mind. An example would be when you go shopping in the grocery store and hear some nice soft music playing. Underneath that soft music may be hidden message to get you to buy more things that your conscious mind will not hear, but which supposedly your subcsonsious mind does. I've experimented with both hypnosis and subliminal messages and have found that for me hypnosis works much better than subliminal messages. Maybe someone else has had some success with subliminal messages, but I've always come up no measurable results.

Subliminal messages are pretty much just a myth.

      Um... no.

SM was based on one instance a few decades ago in which split-second images of popcorn, coke, etc. were inserted in a film, and sales of the products rose a little bit. After that, numerous tests have been conducted proving that SM has no factual basis.

that's not true, the tests prove that SM is very possible, very factual, and very useful. subliminal messages are very similar to hypnosis, as they both tap into your unconscious mind to plant thoughts into your head. subliminal messages are used in this day an age to help people overcome problems, google the term "subliminal messages" and you'll get plenty of sites that tell you (possibly sell you, but you get the idea) how to use subliminal messages to your benefit. it is in no way a myth or un-factual, but thats just my opinion...

i think you're thinking to specific.. in advertising subliminal messages aren't limited to quickly flashed images of random products, in my opinion.

      Too obvious?

This may sound too obvious, but I've found that FULLY AUDIBLE messages (that is, affirmations), repeated in a loop, especially prior to the hour or so before sleep, have much more power than subliminal ones, since ALL areas of my mind can "hear" them (even if only in the background), especially if done in a musical way; that, and the fact that the memory of the soundwave automatically repeats to the point where you can actually HEAR IT when it isn't playing (due to persistance of vibrations in the inner ear or whatever). It doesn't work so well AS you are sleeping (at least for me) since all I dream of then is to find the source of the sound and turn it off! (This does NOT apply to altered-state meditation where it DOES work for me.)
Only you can interpret your dream as you are the only one with your mind.
