      "SMILD" questions

so I was thinking of a few things the other day, just brainstorming about major aspects of dreams and what not.
I somehow got on the topic of a nightmare i had the other day and realized it was about a scary movie.
Call me a wimp or whatever, but everytime i watch a horror movie I won't go to bed without watching something funny to get my mind off of the things that would give me nightmares..but since lucidity is used to combat nightmares, wouldn't it be feasible to assume one could watch a scary movie to induce a nightmare and when it happens BICKITY BAM you're in a lucid dream? Thus introducing the "Scary Movie Induced Lucid Dream" or shall i say, "Induced Nightmare".
Does anyone else think this would work or am i just being stupid?
      Any feedback is appreciated.

That sounds like a good idea to induce some strong emotions in your dreams such as fear and nervousness etc, which in turn is likely to make you think 'I wish I was dreaming / I hope I am dreaming' - I know I think like that during nightmares all the time, and in real life when bad things happen!

With regards to this technique actually inducing lucid dreams because it's on your mind, I think this would vary greatly from person to person depending on your tendancy to become lucid. As a beginner, and someone who hasn't had a substantial lucid dream before, there isn't much to stop me thinking it's all real at the time, but some people may fall asleep thinking of the movie and the knowledge that it's not real may carry through into their dreams...

Juicyfruit, the DV protocol is to experiment on these sorts of ideas (see http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=66488 for the Research Guidelines) before proposing new lucid induction techniques. If you think it will work, send an experiment proposal to someone on the staff, and head over to the research forums(http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=32) for discussion and to recruit participants. Once scientific studies have conducted we can establish if it is really able to induce lucidity. I have thought about this concept for a while, since I NEVER became lucid from nightmares but many people apparently learned to lucid that way. So this one in particular makes me believe that when coupling the horror of the movie with reality checking it could be rather feasible. Just not for people like me, who become insomniacs after watching the opening to Are You Afraid of the Dark haha Good luck!
