This is actually very common when you're having some of those first lucids, so don't feel bad at all. Typically, when you get lucid, you get a little excited and just wake yourself up. It takes a little practice to stay calm when you get lucid, but it's something that you'll likely pick up very quickly so don't worry.

Personally spinning doesn't help me stabilize dreams, so I normally have to rub my hands or put my hands on a wall or the floor in the dream. those are just other things you can try. Everyone is different, so whatever works best for you. Pretty much anything that keeps your senses on the dream senses and keeps your mind off your physical body.

Im the exact same ive found spinning to not work personally because im engaging my dream body with blurred or sometimes lost vision. I like to rub my hands over something or together and just stop and take everything in and stabilize the dreamscape frist then go off with increased awareness as well. My majority of my first lucid dreams were short but grew longer with time. Keep at it Mike, its well worth it
