I like this thread. It would make good reading for anyone who is feeling unmotivated.

I'm relatively new and haven't got a lucid yet, but I think its all to do with your attitude. I look at Lucid Dreaming as more of a lifelong goal, I mean....I've got every night for the rest of my life to try and develop this skill. Therefore I'm walking on sunshine, whooa oh

Great way of thinking. You should never feel 'bad' about not lucid dreaming, because it is not your choice when or how long you sleep for. All you can do is decide what to do with the time that is given to you.

Lucid dreaming takes time and dedication its not going to happen over night. in some cases it does but not for most people
Lol'd at how literal that was.
I totally agree. Sometimes its a hit and miss. Never give up after one go. As I have been saying recently, you may as well keep trying. Unless you have a busy schedule for the middle of the night then theres nothing stopping you.

This really is true. To be completely honest it's been two and a half years since I started trying to Lucid Dream. I've since only had a handful of lucid dreams that I wasn't even able to control! I have a tendency to get discouraged every once in a while. This is an absolutely terrible idea. It can (and usually will) set your progress back to 0. I've learned over time that the key is moderation. If you feel like you're getting frustrated, tone it down a bit! It won't kill you to be satisfied with the dreams your mind cooks up for a little while! Plus, now they'll be more vivid and you can expand your dream journal!

One way to keep from getting discouraged (and this will cause a riot):

DON'T count your lucids. Write them down of course, along with your other dreams but DON'T keep track of the numbers. There is no reason to count a night of no lucids as any sort of failure or disappointment. Just try to think about how you have a clean slate the next night, and if it happens, great, and if not, no big deal either because you'll have good dreams anyway.

      look im not a rioter!

couldn't agree more with the thread,.

somenights you'll have extreme didcation and you get nothing, and sometimes you do nothing and have like 4 dreams ina row with 1 FA 'lawl

you just need to be moderatly persistant, dont try your ass of or you'll just end up stressing yourself wich is like a -50% chance for dreams. i suppose for those people who are desperate and sleeping is a highpoint of your day you could try using supplements. (not recommended: melatonin/b6 for starts)

i used to be desperate for dreams, and while i was i got none, i gave up on dreams, and got 1 so i tryed a MILD one last time while i was relaxed and careless of wheater or not it'd work, and BANG a LD woke my life up =D

      good night!

That's actually a very good point.
I believe that some members think lucid dreaming is some sort of numbers game where we have to out do each other. Lucid dreaming is life changing whether you have had 1 or 100.
I know that I keep count of my lucid dreams, but I do this for my own evaluation purposes. To be honest, I should take it off because it discourages the whole point of lucid dreaming.

Sometimes failing in lucid dreaming is more important than having them. When you fail, it gives you a chance to look back and see where you went wrong. You never learn if you keep winning.

Same here. I like to do a positive visualisation thing where I imagine my count being much higher than it is now. And I like to think that updating my count after a success helps to reinforce the positive behaviour.

I agree. Its hard not to count my dreams, with my DJ in all.

Good points-- if counting lucids isn't causing discouragement, then no reason to stop. We're all different in how we think.

But if you're the type of person who goes "oh, I've only have five" and gets disappointed by that, I would say lose the counting. I've seen a lot of people doing that, where counting serves to discourage more than motivate.

The beauty of LD is its all a mind game...If you beleive you can...you can. LD is not a test of physical ability and dedication, like say....basketball, but a test of dedication solely. If you are dedicated to the goal of LD you will LD. LD without dedication is like a pen without ink, a soup without broth, a deflated beachball. USELESS.

      Dream on...

Haha... This isn't something I don't have much of a problem with. Every night I don't have a lucid dream, I just tell myself... "Okay... TONIGHT I will definitely lucid dream!" lol

I figure I will eventually lucid dream. Whether it's by chance or because I keep telling myself I will.

How I think of lucid dreams is if I don't have one, or fail at WILD or something like that I don't get fustrated or quit or anything like that. I just say to myself, "Oh well. I always have tonight or tomorrow, etc." Sure I would really like to have one, but if I don't, oh well, I'll keep trying!

Exactly. Why give up? What good is that going to do?
