      Not Tired?

I have been trying to do the FILD method for the past couple of days. I can't seem to do it.

I have woken up at 3AM, 4AM, and 5AM. But every time I wake up... I'm not tired! And that is the key to the FILD method. Why am I not tired?

The only real time I have recalled being extremely tired is 7AM or 8:30AM. Because when my alarm wakes me up for school, I almost ALWAYS hit snooze when it goes off at 7. But only half the time when it goes off at 8:30.

So why am I not tired at the earlier times, but extremely tired in the later times? Should I start trying the FILD/WBTB methods at 7AM? Or should I just continue trying the earlier times even though I'm not tired?

Thanks for the help. And sorry for any sloppiness, I wrote this in a haste before school haha

I dont know what could cause this, but I've had similar experiences when trying to WILD at night. When ever I try to WILD, for some reason it just puts me in a deep meditative state. The result is I'm so relaxed I don't fall asleep!! Sure it's relaxing and all, but it's also frustrating if you WANT to fall asleep and dream So I've stopped trying to WILD in the middle of the night. Regular non lucid dreams is better than no dreams at all!

Very true! But yea... I've tried sooo hard these past weeks to become lucid and no luck. I've kind of given up.

I have this same problem. My first guess is that your alarm wakes you up mid-sleep cycle. When you wake up naturally it is often right after a dream cycle has finished. I would recommend using MILD instead. Each time you wake up just keep repeating "The next time i'm dreaming I will remember to recognize that I'm dreaming". Don't think about your body and just let your mind daydream a bit, but keep bringing it back to that original mantra. Eventually you'll either go into a hypnotic state as you fall asleep and plant the suggestion or you will just retain consciousnoss right into the dream. Other than that, I have no idea why I'm exhausted right before my alarm. The dream cycle is mostly a slightly educated guess. I'd like to see some better answers for myself personally. I have never got WILD to work, so I definately think MILD can help you. Also using a timer to wake you up at randomly intervals can really help. You will either wake up in sleep paralysis (which you can launch a dream from there), or you will wake up half a wake and can then do MILD as you fall asleep. Once you find the method, you will see yourself having lucids daily. I plan on posting the timer method I use. It's from www.saltcube.com

are you waking up right after a dream ends? FILDs normally work like DEILDs in that you need to be exiting a dream in order to start it. It's possible to get them off the bat, but they just work better as an alternative to a DEILD. If you find yourself up for longer than a few minutes while trying it, you may as well switch to a more traditional WILD method.

As others have pointed out, it could depend on when you wake up during a dream cycle. If you want, instead of setting your alarm on the hour, and moving it back an hour each time, set it 20 minutes after the hour then move it up from there.
