      attaining lucidity when going to sleep at night?

      Is there a method where you get lucid when you go right to bed at night without waking up 5-7hrs? I know that you can get lucid from DILD, and REM sleep comes in about 1 1/2 hrs. So, if i stay conscious for 1 1/2 hrs during my bed time at night, will I attain lucidity?

      Well, it's POSSIBLE to do a WILD (which is pretty much what you're saying), without the Wake-Back-To-Bed part of it, but be forewarned that WILDing is much more difficult to do when first going to sleep at night. I can already say that it would be difficult to stay conscious when you're very tired when you're aiming to have a WILD going from waking to your first REM phase, which is just after 90 minutes. You're going to be laying awake for an hour and a half to WILD without waking up at the 5.5/7 hour mark....

      However, these are not the only methods. You can also MILD, which is where you use autosuggestion to induce a lucid dream. This relies on your subconscious to work, and in that way is very effective after your subconscious is used to listening to your wishes to attain lucidity. Let me know if either a WILD method or MILD method will work for you, I can check out the "Attaining Lucidity" section of the site for some more methods, but I think you'd get a lot farther by doing that part yourself. There are a lot of methods out there, so I'm sure there are some that don't require waking up after going to sleep for a certain amount of time.

      You could do it with a REM rebound caused by lack of REM sleep the previous night. If you pulled an all-nighter, or went to bed drunk (which suppresses REM), then your body will try to make up for lost time, putting you right into REM. Having spent the weekend doing the above, I will no doubt be getting one hell of a rebound tonight...

      Well this helps alot... 1.5 hours of waiting before I can even CLOSE to WILD...

      Time to stop being lazy and try a proper WBTB. What's the delay later in the night?

      Ok. I agree that the REM cycle does not come until later in the night, but that does not mean that you cannot WILD while going to bed. I have WILDed while going to bed, and it took quite a while, but it IS possible

      Well, that depends. A WBTB is a technique enhancer, as far as I've seen. You can do a WBTB in conjunction with WILD as is commonly done, but technically you can combine it with any method, since you're interrupting your sleep cycle with the intent to 'wake up' your brain more than it usually is when it gets to a REM phase.
      But, DILDs are probably and usually considered the easiest LDs to get. It still takes effort and time.

      I agree, but who said that WILDing isn't possible when going straight to bed? I made sure to point out that it IS possible, as you've said, in my post, if that's what you thought I was getting at.

      Yes, there is a way, but only using a special trick, because when you go to bed for the night, you usually enter stage 4 (deep) sleep very quickly and it's next to impossible to stay aware during that time. Here's a hypnogram displaying it:



      The trick is to skip sleeping for a night. In that case, stage 4 sleep most probably won't occur the next time you go to bed and you directly slip into REM. By now, I tried it several times and it works quite well. An advantage is that you won't wake up easily and can have very profound experiences. A disadvantage is that you get no sleep for a night.

      Otherwise trying to lucid dream at the onset of a sleep is just a waste of time and a source of frustration. I've written a detailed tutorial on that here.

      Too right! I literally couldn't force myself awake most times.
