I do reality checks like every hour at school and every 10 minutes at home. In the last couple of months I've only reality checked like 3 times in a dream. So that's a 3:bizillion ratio of dream RCs to waking life RCs. Mental reality checks are equally as useful as physical ones. I do both. Ask yourself if you remember how you have got to where you are, and whether you recognise your environment. I think dream journaling is the most important thing to do to improve awareness and memory in dreams. Obsessing over the topic of lucid dreaming might help, but I remember one dream I had recently where all the characters including myself were talking about lucid dreaming, yet I didn't reality check once. That is probably an overkill of lucid dreaming thought.

If you want a routine suggestion: do a reality check every time you wake up. record any dreams you remember when you wake up. That includes when you WBTB. Do regular RCs during the day when you are busy. When you get home you might want to meditate, perhaps while listening to binaurals or subliminal lucid dreaming audio. Read stuff on DV and also post stuff. And importantly have a regular sleeping time. You can sleep til late one day of the week, but any more than that one day will probably mess up your body clock or make you exhausted during the week.
