Similarities between WBTB and relaxation meditation

OK, so I've not attempted a WBTB in some time, but I'm kind of thinking I should. I've been doing some meditation lately in an effort to attain more clarity in real life (which I hope will transfer into dream clarity). When I do, I often get the sensation that my body is falling asleep after 15 or so minutes, and when I hang with it I hit the meditative sweet spot.

My question: for those who successfully WBTB and such, is the process similar? I think it may just be about me needing to relax when attempting it like I do when I meditate.

      Thanks!

WBTB is simply waking up in the middle of a sleep period, doing activities to wake up for a short time, then going back to bed.

WILD however, often used in conjunction with a WBTB, does have very striking similarities to meditation.

The WILD technique of relaxing 61/63/w.e. points of your body from the feet up was a meditation technique I know that my great-uncle included in his book. WILD definitely borrows a lot from already established meditation methods, since the goal is somewhat similar. I've always thought that LD share a lot in common with meditation.
