If I do get an LD (haven't had one yet) that's one of the things I want to do first. I read an article on this site and it said that you can think of reasons why someone would be there, for example.
If I were in my house in an LD and I was facing a door. I could say "Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender is through that door because she's wondering if I have any hot coco." Then I would open the door and she could possibly be there. I'm definately going to try it.
