      The Ganzfeld Experiment

I'm trying to do the sensory deprivation experiment to make me hallucinate.
My goal is just too see something non-physical.

But I just wonder if anyone else have tried this out and managed to see weird things?
Because I sit with ping pong balls on my eyes, listen to brown noise, sitting in complete darkness with just a single lightsource pointed to my face and I sit like this for about 20 minutes and then I give up.

here is a link of how to do it: Boston.com - Ideas - Globe

Some other sources says that I am supposed to do it for atleast 30 minutes, so I will keep trying. But if you have any experience with this, let me know.

I can use this as my weird way of meditating

I've wanted to try this, but haven't actually gotten around to doing it properly. I found a ping pong ball and cut it in half, but never found a good way to attach it to my face comfortably. That was months ago, I need to renew my interest and try it out for real. I've heard the light should be red, and should be pretty bright. I'm hoping to use my monitor, but I don't know if it will suffice.

The Purkinje Lights are fun to play with though, and very easy to do..

Get back to me on this one, I thought it would be a cool way to try and induce a dream, but I don't know if there is any side affects and I don't want to mess up my brain!
Also, I can just imagine my mum coming in the the room like "HOLY **** SEAN WHAT ARE YOU DOING!", she already thinks lucid dreaming is weird enough!
      Haha Good luck!

LikesToTrip: Try to find a way to make it work, it would be nice with others trying it with me

Arch: Yeah that's my idea to start "dreaming" and then see if it's possible to access the subconscious through it. I will keep you updated

I am going to make an attempt right before I go to sleep this night, because I am free from school tomorrow!

I'll see if I still have those ping pong ball halves later today. I think I know where I put them...

So you are going to use your TV as a monitor? Are you going to use a strobe or a constant light?
I wouldn't set a time limit. If you set a time limit you will be more focused on the amount of time that has passed and will begin wondering when things should start to happen and when your time limit is up. I think you'll be able to let your mind wander much better if you just go until you've had enough.
Good luck, hope it works out.

I am going to use a constant light and the noise I use is ending after 30 minutes so I don't have to track the time, but I usually feel like I have had enough after 20 minutes.

you dont need so complicated set up to get some visuals. you can get hypnogogic hallucinations every night. just lie down close your eyes and at first relax your inner vision until you are able to see a colorful spot on the usually dark background. when you see the spot concentrate on it and follow its transformations. when you see something interesting for you expand it and have a nice trip

I've thought about doing this before I was practicing LDing! It certainly looks interesting - and now that I know a little more I certainly think it could be related to hypnogogic hallucinations and not just trippy ping pong balls

      Thanks, but I just can't do that :/ I don't see anything.

Ok may be need to elaborate a bit. So when i lie down i close my eyes and relax my body as much as i can. Now what i mean by 'relax your inner vision' is that you should just relax yourself and not try to concentrate on that background dark space(inner vision field). While doing 'not concentration' you still observe the field cos from time to time some bright spots appear and disappear. For me they usually appear as yellow. Sometimes very bright but really tiny ones. So when i see that one i try not to lose it but bring it to the center of my field. After i concentrate on it and it gets larger at first. Then it starts to morph into a lot of things. Sometimes it becomes a series of faces coming one after another and some of them really weird and scary. Then i just skip which means i let the spot to become just a spot again and let it morph one more time. So until i find smth interesting for me then i concentrate more and the morph expands itself into a bigger picture. Sometimes i end up in space but most often in some cities.
Relax, observe, catch and concentrate on that bright yellow spot. It takes some time but it works every time. At least for me.
      Enjoy

Wait do you WILD this way?
And yeah I can relate to your description, I don't see yellow spots mine are usually lightblue or white, but they only appear for a short second.
But sure if you could lay like this forever anyone could hallucinate, because that is dreaming. But how do you do to not fall asleep (unconsciously)?

      And thanks for the description

Edit: I just tried something like that, I laid on my back and put my elbow over my eyes (the way you do when you are tired or sad) and used it as a sleepmask.
Then I started to think about random stuff and everytime I felt like I wanted to move or felt tired I stared right into the eyelids and looked for weird figures and if I found one I didn't looked right at it and i remained, but soon it faded out. I started to see really weird images shapes with colours and they were floating on the back of my eyelids. Suddenly I started to think random stuff like "What if the boat goes too far?" And I immediatelly aknowledge that and thought "Why was I thinking that?" I kept looking and I told myself that I have to study so I can't fall asleep! And I lay there for 30 minutes without falling asleep unconsciously!
Then I got up, because I really had to study. But I will make a new attempt and see if it goes any further. And I will have a timer to see how long I lay there.

It wasn't a dream ot anything of course, but it was fun to play with what ever I saw, I am going to try to fall asleep this way and see if I can remain aware.
You can try it right now: Stare right into a bright light and then close your eyes and try to move the after image, that's was what I was doing but without a light!
And thank you so much once more kenietz !

      Bye for now =)
