The majority view here seems to be that there's no clear line dividing between an out-of-body experience and a lucid dream. This fits my experience. Normally while 'awake' you involuntarily project what essentially a cartoon of your external environment, incorporating real-time sensate information. In a lucid dream you incorporate almost no real-time information, and it may be more voluntary, but otherwise its mostly the same kind of projection. In an 'out of body' experience you project a representation of your external environment, possibly incorporating other imagery also. Weirdly, it can include actual real-time information, and other paranormal effects can occur, though nobody seems to have much idea about how that works.
Your normal 'waking' experience contains a variety of elements, including sound, color, tactile location, inertia, buoyancy, etc. Out-of-body experiences can differ depending on which of these elements are emphasized. In the past I made a distinction between astral body and dream body, but now I think its just an emphasis on different aspects of the mental model.
I haven't had experiences with frozen people such as you describe. I suppose that since you're projecting representations of thoughts and other unnamed things that you sense, and are struggling to accommodate two competing versions of 'where' you are, a wide variety of things could happen. If you're using drugs to stimulate the experiences, or if it seems to have an adverse effect on your waking life emotional health, then I'd lay off of it, but that's just my opinion.
